Its really hard to say. I think that its possible they would. Look at the current regime there. The President, and the real leaders - the ruling clerics, have all espoused some very extreme views. Its not hard to imagine them acting on these crazy ideas. You make a good point in your question about Iran knowing that they would surely be destroyed in an act of retaliation. But for some people this simply does not matter.

Well -- North Korea hasn't used them.

India and Pakistan are still at war with each other, and haven't used them against each other yet.

Israel probably has them -- but hasn't used them.

Britain hasn't used them, despite being in several wars since they have the technology.

And Iran hasn't attacked anyone recently and has no real reason to in the near future -- let alone the fact that there is no evidence they are developing nuclear weapons -- and ignoring the fact that so many second-hand USSR nuclear weapons were lost on the black market that anyone who wants one could easily get one.

So, there is no rational reason to think Iran would use them if they had them -- and even if they are developing them, it would still be years before the technology was ready for use.

And whatever nation uses them is going to face retaliation not just from the US -- but from everyone else. So, again, no rational threat.

Iran would use them as a deterrent. If they had nuclear weapons, they know that the Sunnis, Russia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel, and the United States couldn't easily invade them. It would also allow them to continue to fund and support Hamas and Hezbollah without worrying about repercussions. They would not use them unless attacked, the idea that Iran is a crazy nation is a ridiculous one, they want the bomb because they see it as providing them with protection and cover.

The only country which has used the nuclear bombs on another country is US! No other country has utilized it even though it possesses it.Then, how could one blame that Iran would use it against Israel?

Yes...

They would give one to one of the various terrorist groups they support and let them smuggle it into Israel or the USA. Then BOOM...it goes off and due to the bleeding heart liberals, we will have to PROVE where it came from before we do anything about it.

My view is this. We tell ALL of the Muslim Arab nations that if any nuke goes off in the USA or ISRAEL, we will nuke Mecca. Just like to do with a child, you tell them what the consequences will be then follow through on them.

I think that Iran wants nukes for protection and status. In this day and age it is imposable to stop any government that is determined to obtain weapons. The only solution is for the great powers to make it very clear what will happen to anyone who pops one in anger.
