It could very well be like the destruction of the foundations of the Roman structures by Samson? I mean, it could go down in debris. On the other hand, it might strengthen and confirm that my religion is the real one because these highly intelligent extraterrestrial people share the same religion.

Since I am not religious it wouldn't do much. I hope every day that something might be found just to let us know we are not alone. When I look at my Turbo-charged Twin Overhead Cam iMac crunching data from seti@home it leaves me in a little world of wonderment. What if, what might be there ...
On the other hand I have to also think about those around me whose lives might be shattered by this information. Until then ...

I have never heard of a religion that excluded ET's as a matter of religious dogma. I can't think of any religion that would be significantly impacted by the discovery of extraterrestrial life.

since the universe is so grand, there is a large possibility that there exists, other planets that are habitable other than our own
it is very possible
I do not follow a religion, the discovery would strike me with great awe and magnificence, I would ask questions

But since God reigns,,,everywhere....if they were smarter than the common citizen of Earth,,they would know that God is God and totally in charge. So Christians would get along just fine with them...being on the same level of intelligence...and all....

Not a thing. I think it would be very presumptuous and naive to think that we would be the only intelligent life in such an immense space as the universe.
