F1 plant propagation takes long period.
Steps are:
1) Determining the plant line which is going to cross.
2) Growing plants. Specification of the plants line( disease resistance, product amount, fruit or flower shape and longevity, salt tolerance.....)
3) Self cross the plants. Harvesting seeds.
4) Continuing the selfing plants line for 5-6 generation.
5) Now, you have a lot of plant line. Choose plant line that you cross each other (according to last specification of plant lines).
6) Out cross the lines. When you harvest the seeds, you have F1 generation. Self crossing of the F1 plants gives the F2 generation.

If you cross two plants, the F1 generation is the offspring from that cross. The F2 generation is produced from the crossing of the F1 generation.
