Generalizations bore me.

Being educated means you think about yourself, others and your environment in general. I cannot totally support the less religious item on your list, but very definitely the less racist - even though I would not go as far and extend that to every single person on the planet because there are quite some intellectual racists around, they just make their BS sound more sophisticated... don´t be fooled by that.

However, it definitely tells us something about racists. Generally, people tend to be afraid of what they don´t know. There you go.

Fundamentalists are those who do not question anything about their religion and take that to a whole new level. For example, Muslim fundamentalists (NOT Muslims in general) are not necessarily stupid people - quite some of them have studied at universites worldwide. However, they have consciously decided to use their brain capacity for very, very crazy causes.

In general, there is a connection between intellect and behaviour. The difference is that well educated people make conscious(!) choices whereas downright stupid people just don´t spend a second questioning themselves or their behaviour.

Yes, there is something about racist people that we should recognize:
Fom www.theage.com.au
PROFESSOR James D. Watson, the man who shared the 1962 Nobel prize for physiology and medicine for discovering the structure of DNA, is "inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa".

But to him, the root cause of the continent's problems doesn't lie with the crippling levels of national debt, the endemic corruption or the AIDS crisis. To him, the real cause of Africa's woes is that black people are inherently less intelligent than other races.

"All our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours — whereas all the testing says not really," Watson told a journalist from Britain's Sunday Times last Sunday.

He hoped that everyone was equal, he continued, but "people who have to deal with black employees find this not true".

"There is no firm reason to anticipate that the intellectual capacities of peoples geographically separated in their evolution should prove to have evolved identically," he argued.

Same old racist story and its not coming from the Westboro Church or Fred Phelps. This man was awarded the Nobel prize in Physiology and Medicine. This highly educated man is using the same old prejudiced generalizations. Are there really intelligence test that have been administered worldwide to Africans and non-Africans, on which every one agrees that the Africans score lower? Shame on Watson.

This is a very interesting question. One I will star even though you are probably going to get some very nasty and stupid answers.

I absolutely believe that it tells us something about religious and racist people. I also believe that education is key to a world at peace in which everyone has a roof over their heads, food in their bellies, basic medical maintenance care and education.

As a black woman you have it worse since you get abused by both racists (that one is obvious) and religious people (most modern religions are pretty anti women.)

As to the why, it is really very simple. Education opens your eyes. Opening your eyes, opens your mind. And opening your mind makes you more tolerant, understanding, compassionate, etc.

I don't know about the "racist" part, but more educated people spend more time in schools and God is not part of their education. The only time they recognize God is when something goes wrong, then they say "How could God allow this to happen?". When things go OK, they're happy to keep God out of the schools.

Hello,

This is certainly not always the case. Cecil Rhodes (gay), Winston Churchill, Dr. Shockley, Dr. Duke for starters and the whole senior administration of Nazi Germany save Streicher The Jew Baiter had IQ'S of close to 140.

Cheers,

You answered the question; educated people think things out for themselves, the less intelligent believe what others tell them, even if it makes no sense.
And the intelligent people realise we are all the same under a different colour.

I take exception to your question...

I find the less educated people to be very racist.

As far as religious, I think that is pretty well split among the masses, no pun intended.

I consider myself and my peers very well educated. We are both scientists and religious. However, none of us see race as as reason for distinction.

not necessarily true. How does that statement stand up with people like Mother Theresa and Molokai Damien and so many others especially of the Catholic Faith?

While you are being very glib, there does appear to be a correlation in statistics between lack of religious ideas and increased intelligence and literacy rates.

You are actually right. The more educated you are, the less likely you are to become either fundementalist and/or racist.
