Sounds like you have calculus, and need a deep cleaning. Calculus is a calcified form of plaque, which in the bacteria that resides in the mouth. Plaque is fairly simple to get rid of - brushing and flossing. However, if you don't floss on a regular basis, the plaque that resides there calcifies, forming a hard structure. This can only be removed using metal instruments by either your dental hygenist or your dentist.
