Try to obtain his service records including his DDform 214/215 ... That will show a record of his earned medals.

With that documented proof, you should be able to purchase the medals at the base/post AFEES. If you are not close to a base/post, give the VFW a call. They might be able to help you get the medals.
You can check this web site out that will list ALL Medal of Honor recipients. Your dad should be on it.

The MOH is America's most prestigious military award. People who win it are like football players who rush 300 yards a game, pass for 300 yards a game, and kick every field goal they attempt. The human resources Command in St Louis should be willing to fall over backwards to help you. Also the Service Officer at any American Legion Post will be thrilled to help you. Good luck. You Father is a true American Hero.

Your best bet, would be to buy then on line, there are many stores selling them at quite reasonable prices, some even offer a mounting service to make them into plaque's as well.
However you will NOT be able to buy a Medal of Honor as it is illegal to be offered for sale, and the sale of such, America's highest award, is against the newly passed "Stolen Valor Act".
If your Father was a recipient of the M.O.H. then this will have to be applied for, contact your local Military Veterans Organization for details.

Well the first step would be to find out exactly what he has, You can go to a military decorations web site and see what he has if you have a list. If you don't have a list of what he has been awarded, check with the VA. They should have a list of what he has been awarded. The MOH is a very prestigious award. They should be very willing to help. If you have a picture of his decorations and not a list. Here is a good web site. Also, If you have his DD 214, It will have all of his awards and decorations on it.

the national military records are kept in st louis, mo. go online to national military records and downloar form 180. fill this out completely and mark the section that asks if you are the member or a family member. you can also request military records and medical records on your father. you must remember that the government works at a snails pace so this might take up to 6 weeks. also there was a fire in the building in 1973 and it is possible that his records were destroyed. after you complete the form 180 you can either mail it or fax it back to military records. there will be a section on what address to use if you mail this form back. each branch of the service has its on mailing address so be sure that you send it to the right address as this reduces the processing time. as a member of the veterans of foreign wars i fill these forms out for our members. if you have trouble fillling this form out locate a veterans organization in your area and ask them for there help. i wish you luck my friend and you should be proud of the duty your father served for his country. mr doodles

First of all, DD-214 were not in use after WWII, veterans were issued discharge papers listing all their information and put into a three fold leather folder (I still have my fathers).
Second, if he was awarded the MOH, then look at his bank records, recipients were paid a monthly benefit for life (not a large one, but still a means of verifying his award of the MOH.
The only way (as stated in another posting here) to get another MOH is to have it issued to you through the DOD
I have included info on where to look up people awarded the MOH.
Good luck and hope this helps
