sent my return on 9/4/2007 but it took them 6 weeks to send it before. I didn't have my W2C so I sent it back on the 4th of Sept.

Relax. You'll get it when you get it.

If you are talking about an amendment the time will vary a great deal. The amendment is processed differently than regular paper returns which take something like 6 to 8 weeks before a refund is issued. If you don't get it in 8 weeks I would advise that you check to see if they received it. They loose about 5% of all paper returns.

Checks are cut on Fridays, but if it's an amended return, that doesn't necessarily mean that it will be cut the first week after they "finish with your return" - and I'm not sure just what you mean by "finishing" with it or how you know they're done. And if you are having a check mailed to you, it would probably be into the week after the check is cut before you actually received it.

IRS does not send you a refund check at all. The Treasury Department, Bureau of Accounts sends the check. The check will be dated close to the Monday date IRS actually processes your return.

If you actually elected to have them send a check:

First, call their automated phone system to find the date that the check was sent or will be sent. Then, go to www.usps.gov to find out how longer it takes mail to get from their ZIP code to your ZIP code.

For future years, it is better to have them direct deposit the money than to have them send a check. There have been problems with theft of checks from the mail.
