Is a BOS, for notations, like rites, rituals, and a Grimoire, for spells? Can someone clarify? i know,I know, you are all probably tired of all my seemingly silly questions, but in most books, sites, i have read, the name of Grimoire is only used once, on a site i have seen. The rest calls it a BOS. are they really that diffrent? The reason for my many questions,is simple,I can't find these answers in the books, sites, i have read. Please bear with me as I learn, as some (who shall remain nameless,for i do not wish to embarrass them,) have answered my many questions with grace with their many years of knowledge in a religion I am just beginning to understand.

A grimoire is a book about magical practices. A BOS is a book about your spiritual path and beliefs.
In the example of Wicca - your BOS might include your views on your deities, celebration of the sabbats, your coven's rules and practices, AND a grimoire that includes your spellwork, herbal lore, etc.

A grimoire is a general name for an arcane book. The Book of Shadows is a specific title and an example of a grimoire.

A grimoire (IPA /grɪˈmwɑr/) is a textbook of magic. Books of this genre, typically giving instructions for invoking angels or demons, performing divination and gaining magical powers, have circulated throughout Europe since the Middle Ages.
The Book of Shadows is a collection of magical and religious texts of Wicca and other Neopagan witchcraft traditions, containing the core rituals, magical practices, ethics and philosophy of a Wiccan or other tradition. In Wicca, it is normally copied by hand from the book of one's initiating High Priestess or Priest, who copied theirs from their initiator. I thought a Grimoire was for dark magic and a BOS was to represent white magic.

I thought 'gromoire' was just a name of a very old book.
