"christian rock" and "christian rap" is basically rock or rap respectively, that are centered around praising Jesus or upholding christian themes, etc.
Singing in church to praise god has been a christian tradition for a long time, but christian rock and christian rap are more aimed at today's christian youths, who don't like going to church and singing organ/latin music with their grandpas.

There is a wide variety of "Christian Contemporary Music" or CCM.

Some of it has lyrics such as you list, that are pretty simple and direct. They're still true, though.

There are groups that face hard questions with less simple song lines. Try "Tourniquet" or "Rez".

There has always been a tension between Christianity and the world. In the early days folks argued over whether Christians should study classical (i.e., pagan) poetry and philosophy; today people argue over whether Christians should produce rock CDs. Christianity is to be in the world but not of the world. And there has always been the temptation to move from being "in" the world to becoming fully part of the world.

So the fact that there is Christian Contemporary Music doesn't mean necessarily that "Christianity is trying to become part of the world, commercial." But likewise we can be sure that some Christian musicians have fallen into being "in" the world.

Paul said "I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some." (1 Cor 9:22) To the Greeks he spoke in Greek terms, to the Jewish Christians and Jews in Jewish terms, and so on. So to me it seems quite allowable to have Christian rock music.

Feel free to contact me via Yahoo! Answers email to get more details about various groups if you want; though I know only hard rock, heavy metal, and industrial, and I don't know them that well.

Blessings upon you and upon your curiosity.

Why rock and rap continue to be so popular period is a sign of a generation (or two) who have no imagination and have decided to regurgitate their parents/grandparents music. Sadly, Christians have fallen into the same trap and are basically regurgitating the secular regurgitation. But some day, someone with just a little vision is going to get tired of this and come up with something new sending both rap and rock to the county fair circuit where they should have been ages ago. Hopefully a Christian.

The real problem with Christianity is that alot of Christians try to blur the line between the secular world and being Christ-like. So in reality there is no difference between the two.

Today's music that they think honor and praises the Lord .It's basically entertainment when played in church . 1 John 2:15 " Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him ".

Do not confuse the works of man to the words of God.

Rock and rap are music genres. Christian rock and rap are music genres that apply Christian belief.

If a song helps you to reach God, then embrace it. If not, forget it and move on.

It's a christian ploy to attract young people to their bankrupt religion. Nothing more.
