Question for Rich Z---Do you know if I can get financial assistance from the government, and, if yes, do you know how to go about getting that assistance ?

First they need a concrete idea as to what the can help with. THen they need enough organizing skills to get some help in getting it going and keep it running. Then thy need enough money to send out info or pick up donations. Then they need enough money (or a pro bono lawyer) to get the group certified as a charity so that contributions are deductible. Then they need to keep up the enthusiasm and continue their good work.

Write a grant. There are resources to help you, and your community may just have a grant writer available to assist you.
