Usually I am a cheerful person. Im quite a person of extremes in all aspects. Meaning, when Im happy -Im really happy, when Im angry -Im really angry etc. Generally as I said Im cheerful, but sometimes I have sudden outburts of aggression or depression and pessimism. I have common moodswings, for e.g I might force myself to goto a public place and suddenly lose all my motivation and ask 'What the *** I came here for' and leave depleted and empty handed. E.g When I decide to go shopping with my mother, she somehow depletes all my energy to a point when I enter the shop doors with her and then say "I dont wanna go here, lets leave" and I leave just like that! Perhaps the problem is not me, but her. Because if I go places with my friends, even the dreaded shops, Im fine and happy but I lack motivation to decide or try on or take action.
Commonly I have these periods that my life is worthless and I have no ambitions. Whats wrong with me?

A bipolar mood disorder is a swinging from high to low. When were high, we get a lot done. Our thoughts are always racing, thinking and thinking, enough to drive you nuts. If we have agoraphobia we want to isolate, and prone to panic attacks. If we don't have agoraphobia we love to go shopping and usually spend more than we have. In my case, I will not go anywhere with my mother and I can't stand to sit near her. She knows why. I'm having difficulty in forgiving her for allowing my father to sexually, verbally, and physically abused me. I have heard, but I don't know if it's true, but some people believe something traumatic in ones life can cause a bipolar condition. When we don't have motivation then we are depressed. Your life isn't worthless today, but I experienced that feeling. I am now stable, and truthfully without the help of 2 good psychiatrists I did well. There psychiatrists out there who are pill pushers. I have been bipolar for 25 years. As a whole, we bi polars are high achievers, so please get help and rid yourself of this emotional pain. I think I should also add that in the beginning of my treatment, it was not an easy ride because it takes time to know what meds work best for you. Usually, for a bipolar condition they use lithium. I hope you will be well, knowing you're not alone regardless of society's viewpoint. There are lot of people with mental illness.

Hi:

What you are describing here is not Bipolar. It sounds to me more like your mom sets off your mood.

Bipolar is not an illness that should ever be taken lightly and is extremely life threatening at times.

I suggest that you sit with your Mom and discuss what you are feeling, but have an open mind as there are ALWAYS 2 different views to any situation.

Instead of trying to place blame "Perhaps the problem is not me, but her." is placing blame completely on your Mom which is not fair at all. This is something that both of you need to sit down and explore together and try to come to a solution.

Be safe and be well

Totally not bi polar. Sounds more like a typical teenager (if you are one) or perhaps a bit of social anxiety. Bi-Polar would be more like this:
High-You feel invincible, do things you would not normally do, eratic behavior, impulsive spending, engaging in dangerous or life threatening activities, etc.
Low-The world sucks, you want to kill yourself, might even make a few feeble attempts which are usually more attention seeking than anything, lack of interest in activities you normally enjoy. etc.

It really just sounds like a depression a minor one. I have depression. It really does not sound like bipolar, that is one like maybe you will have a couple weeks where you are very depressed and sleep all day and then the next couple weeks you might barely sleep and have all this energy.I am not a doctor thought and would advise you to go see him or her.

You sound like your really really self indulgent here, like a hormonal spoiled teenager. The mood swings can come from the hormones. My daughter was bi-polar, although she doesn't to this day agree with the diagnosis. She just graduated with a business and spanish degree and it was a ruff ride with hearing voices, going overboard when seeing a movie(wanting a gun like JLow + getting one from boyfriend) , telling me she was going to jump off a bridge for attention, talking to herself, driving with no headlights. So we got her help, and the meds puffed her weight, (she was skinny and looked preg.) Now she is on an even kiel, but hey you sound mild if its that, see a psychaitrist, not psychologist.

No, I doubt you have bipolar, because if you have bipolar disorder (which I do), you are happy, and really, really, really self-confidant, then you crash, and go into chronic depression. Also, another problem with bipolar disorder is you get up with the sun, and fall asleep with the sun. Compare these facts with what is happening, and if you have all of these, you do, if you don't, you don't.

You have said nothing that is even close to mental illness. This shows your inner feelings as you learn to adjust to your life. Good luck but be kind to those who have mental illness. There is a big enough change in the body and mind to say you are born again after having mental illness .

It doesn't sound bipolar to me but you might want to get it checked out just in case. I think you just have mood swings. Some younger people(especially adolescents)have them. It's nothing unusual.
