They thought the water part was when you were
born from your mom. the spirit part is getting saved. I never realized people may think this.
Jesus let John the baptist baptize him. in water.
so that would be something jesus hisself did.
There is so much misconception about so many
things, if you really seek an answer, it is written
in there, dont rely on what others tell you.
God will show you in his word, the truth is there.
God bless all of you.

I always thought the "total submersion" was to symbolize the washing away of sin.

Oh! my dearly beloved sister in Christ. Please do not let every interpretation of God's Word ever confuse you. Be like the christians in Berea ( Acts 17: 10-12 )and verify by comparing scripture with scripture to assure the proper interpretation and be able to rightly divide the Word of Truth. I suggest that you as well as all of our brothers and sisters in Christ and those seeking to know Him, make great use of the following tool:

That is just one of many different interpretations of Baptism. I suppose that you're interpretation is different. The question needs to be asked, "Who's interpretation is correct?" Obviously the Holy Spirit cannot give two people answers that contradict. There is only one right interpretation of Baptism. My question to you (since you didn't really post one) is, "How do you know, with all certainty, who's interpretation is right?" How do you know with 100% that YOU'RE interpretation is right? Who is the "master interpreter?" It cannot be the Holy Spirit because so many people claim that the Holy Spirit told them something different. What gives?
