Is there a way I can watch the defrag. taking place?

Yes that's what I mean. I want to see how it is progressing like you see the colours moving in xp, but I can't see this.

Vista – defrag
By default, Vista defrag is set to run automatically every week. If it doesn’t run, or if you want to change the schedule, click Modify Schedule in the Disk Defragmenter dialog box.
Click Start
cl Computer
cl the drive to defrag
cl Properties
cl Defrag Now

Doesn't say we can sit back and watch the defrag as we used to - maybe someone out there has figured this out.

You can't actually see what is being done, but if it is anything like the Windows XP, you will see a diagam od how it is progressing, and it will notify you in a dioalog box when the job is completed.

If you forced it to defrag then the dialogue box will tell you.
If it has been scheduled automatically it will not tell you anything.
