The Russian version is Stepan, Stepa for short (Styopa). I love the people who answer questions very matter-of-factly, when in reality they have no clue what they're talking about. There are tons of names that can be translated directly from language to language. For instance, my name, Michael. In Russian this is Mikhail, Misha for short. Now, if you are watching Russian news and you see them commenting on an American or British person named Stephen (or Steven), they won't translate his name as Stepan. They'll leave it as Stephen (or Steven). If someone named Stephen lives in Russia and has Russian friends, there is a good chance he will be called Stepan. It depends on preferences.
