I had a dream that I was having sex with a woman... and I am physically a woman (but mentally I don't think of myself as having any gender). It's the second time I've had a dream like this, only in this one I'm actually doing stuff instead of just kissing and I'm the dominant one like in the last one. I'm starting to think I'm subconsciously attracted to women or something... I don't have a problem with that, but I want to know what this dream might mean...

Jeremy Taylor (you can look up his books on dreams) researched the writings of some very ascetic mystics and found a lot of reports of dreams with explicit sex. He thinks it's a sign of spiritual connectedness--communing with the universe sort of thing. So I'd usually say that you should look at what's happening in your spiritual life first. Your statement of having no gender identification is very unusual, however, and I'd think distressing to your psyche at some level, so gender identity must be looked at. It could be some part of your self (or all of it) wants to identify with being male, which would logically lead to being attracted to women, but you can't assume literal meanings in dreams. It could be a non-sexual part of your self/life. For example, you could be feeling powerless about something and your unconscious wants you to take charge "like a man". Or another angle would be taking charge "like a woman", without being domineering, overbearing, etc.. What you mean by "dominant" and how you felt about it in the dream would give clues to the style of taking charge that seems to fit.

I'd suggest you consider how you identify with being male as a gender identity and also how you feel about your masculine side, which every one has, along with a feminine side. If your dreams keep involving sex then I'd guess they're really about gender identity. If you see patterns of dominance in other settings, then I'd guess the subject is coming to terms with your masculine energy.

On the subject of identity, your choice of avatar--a mask--is certainly provocative, with its suggestion of taking on an artificial identity while hiding your true face/identity. It's no proof, but I'd take that as evidence that your dream self is concerned with identity on a global scale, not just how to handle some situation or how you feel about generic "maleness". Multiple subjects and meanings can be valid in one dream, however. I'm one to talk, by the way, with a horse for an avatar, but my avatar and pen name are a literary reference so I consider my identification with horses to be pretty indirect.

That's interesting that you said you don't think of yourself as having a gender. I don't think I've ever heard someone say that.

I've heard of women who feel like they are really men stuck in the wrong body, and vice versa. But being completely gender neutral? That's interesting.

Well, sexuality is very complex. Dreaming about another woman might have nothing to do with your sexuality or gender. The first thing I would start asking yourself is what gender you feel you are. Work that out first, and ignore any labels about sexuality. That can be addressed later :)

If you are heterosexual and you dream that you are having sex with someone of the same sex, signifies not necessarily homosexual desire, but an expression of greater self love and acceptance. You need to be in better touch of your feminine or masculine side.
