I am considering taking an online course in fashion/textiles and was wondering how the work i do will be marked. will i have to send photographs of my work to be assessed? I was just wondering, as it seems strange that someone would be able to gain a diploma through a self study course without having their work thoroughly assessed and marked.

Ask the provider to give you more details as to how you will be assessed - all providers should give you this information before you enrol.

Assessment can take many forms, including actual evidence, oberservation, formal testing, questioning (oral & written), discussion, simulation to name but a few.

As previously stated the best person to provide you with the answer is the assessor/provider.

I am working through a distance learning (online) course. Assessment takes place through my online contributions to the forum as well as marking assignments I post to the college.

I presume that yours would be similar, but I would contact them to be certain.

Well, if they don't assess it, then it is a fraud. The courses I have taken are "graded" immediately by the computer before it will let you on to the next step. In the case of a design course, presumably you either have to design on the computer and submit that or scan your designs to submit them electronically.
Why not just ask them?

Hun, it depends on the particuar class. Contact them. Random Yahoo strangers won't have an accurate answer necessarily, regardless of how reasonable it sounds.
