We raise Engish Springers and Beagles. We currently have a beatiful BWT boy that we feel is show quality. How many of you are breeder/handlers

We have a Welsh Cardigan Corgi who's a champion. Before you decide to do this, watch the Christopher Guest movie "Best of Show." It's pretty accurate about dog show people. We never intended to show our dog--we thought he was only of pet quality. We were wrong and the breeder usually shows him, but I've shown him 5 or 6 times. I've been to a lot of dog shows and there are some odd people there, but it is really fun to see the various breeds. Is there something more specific you want to know?

I breed, but do not show many of my own. For me, it is easier to get a handler. I have three kids and a husband with a crazy work schedule, so it is not possible to be away every weekend. And with the politics in my breed, it is actually less expensive most of the time for me to pay the handler.

And as far and the AI thing goes, there are a lot of breeders that do AI as a general rule now, and follow that with planned c-sections. Not everyone does that, or has to. I try and keep as natural a breeding program as I can. However, the shipping of semen in order to breed from a good dog across the country is a great thing!!!
You will find a lot of "interesting" people in dog...showing or not. But you may meet a lot of great people and find some new best friends!!!!!

I show Great Danes. I owner handle and I enjoy it. Of course there are some not so nice people but you know in all the years I've shown I've met far more nice people then I have not nice. I've come across and shown under some judges that were less then desirable and very political but I've shown under far more fair judges.
Just like in every aspect of life there is good and bad...in most cases it's what you make it.

As for AI..in many respects I like the idea since it prevents the spread of infection and injury to either dog. It also gives a breeder a wider selection of males from which to select from..males that may compliment their female better.

I have had my dogs shown and I'm not the biggest fan in the world but I feel it is important for them to have their titles if I intend to breed them so I do it anyways. I usually will only have them shown until they get their titles. Maybe take a few lesonson how to show before diving in so yo uare more prepared
