In case you don't go to links, Dumbledore's GAY!!! *Gasp* There's no big deal in my book, but I know that most Christians (not all, but most) do not like Harry Potter because it, "promotes witchcraft" so I was wondering if this will be just another nail in the coffin for those Christians who think this way. Atheists, what do you feel about it? Other theists, your views? I find it funny as Hell, I don't care, I love the books and it won't deter me from reading them again. Just wondering what you guys felt about this.

Jorge S- Wow typical bigoted answer...how do you know if Harry Potter isn't one of God's favorite books? Did you even READ the article? Harry Potter is more about tolerance, I've read all of them, and I can see how it is. I'm not going into it all since you probably don't have an open enough mind to understand, but why are you so afraid of a story? Do you like LotR? That has magic in it, and it was written by who: J.R.R. Tolkien, who was a what: Christian. Or what about Chronicles of Narnia, that has magic in it, but also has a lot of Christian undertones to it, is that evil and a sin against God? Get over yourself. The fact that there's magic, witches and wizards is just a plot device. When you were a kid, I bet you liked stories like that (unless your parents were as bigoted as you are now.) Shame to you, sir.

"Most" christians do not condemn the "Harry Potter" books, just those who are worried that a story might make their little dears satanic monsters.

Shame they don't think the same way about sending them off to war. Shame that they think that a sorty is so powerful that is should be suppressed. Shane that they don;t think people are able to make up their own minds.

You're probably right about the few who are so scared of a story - now that theres a gay wizard in there it'll make it all the worse for them - now they really do have to go out burning the book like in the Inquisition - look out JKRowling - the're piling up the wood for the big bonfire with you on top.

MY Gaydar was asleep on that one :)
Yes it will give some fundies another reason to hate Harry Potter as JK Rowlings herself pointed out.
Considering that tolerance for others is a big theme in the series I'm not surprised that such a prominate character is gay, and his sexuality is of little importance in the overall plot.
What has me concerned though is there will be people suggesting that he must be a pedophile; it seems to be a natural conclusion for people to jump to.
It won't stop me from re-reading the books or from encouraging my children to read them :)

I think it's a riot. Something that has absolutely no importance to how great the books are, but will certainly give any idiotic bigot censors another reason to hate the Harry Potter books.

Loved the Harry Potter books. Great works of fiction. My kids enjoyed them, too. We don't push them on people who do have an issue with some aspect of the books.

Le LOL. I don't care for either the books or the movies but I heartily approve of anything that gets the fundergarments in a twist.

Gay or not it doesn't bother me and my kids read the Harry Potter books. And it does not promote witchcraft as much as the idea of good triumphing over evil (oooo... isn't that just horrible!). Besides, its a work of fiction and if it gets my boys reading, more power to 'em!

GREAT article. i've enjoyed all the interviews with JK after the end of the series and this one too is super! i could care less if Dumbledore is gay or straight -- his sexuality did NOT come into play in the book. i think he's a great role model.

Well it doesn't bother me,if he's gay so be it. Of course to the best of my knowledge his sexuality is never actually covered in any way in the books,it's simply a comment by the author. But it doesn't matter in the least,Dumbledore's cool no matter what.

what i don't understand is what difference it really makes because dumbledore is dead!

i think she said that on purpose to piss people off. to make fun of us all. if she's serious, than that would actually be cool, because it means that she's prolly going to add more 3D characteristics to her characters. they all seem so 1D and flat; this is hope she may start to make them like real people.

christians hate everything anyway.
