ask them "what other cities have you flown to?"
do you like conventional instrument panels or glass panels?
how fast does this plane fly? whats the climb max rate?
do you use the ILS(instrument landing system) very often?
have you ever caught yourself in fog before?
what other airports/airstrips have you flown to?
what type of aircraft do you prefer the best?
have you ever got hard-to-follow directions from a controller?
ask him these kinds of questions; it should start a pretty good conversation.
