I have taken off a moulded Canadian plug and am trying to put an english one on instead, but the wiring is different to the Uk, can anyone tell me which colours are earth, neutral and live? I can't seem to find out anywhere and I don't want to blow myself sky high!!!!!!!!!!

Oh- and I have already cut the plug off flush so I can't just go and buy a converter!

the Live, Phase, Hot wire can be Black, Red or orange
BUT NEVER White, Gray, OR Green

the Neutral Wire is White or Gray

the Earth is green or green striped

You haven't said what the device is, so we don't know if it's 110v or 220v, which uses different color codes. Also the age of the device which can also affect the color codes.

And if it's a 110v device, and you put on a connector that plugs into UK 220v, then you instantly fry the device.

Given that you've cut the plug flush, the only way to determine, now, which color goes to which pin is to use an ohmmeter. Or better yet, stop being stupid and live longer. Just because you can carve a turkey doesn't make you a surgeon.

Instead of doing all that and worrying go to an electronic store and buy a converter they are worth the cost.

I wouldn't recommend it, but if you are determined, then use an RCD plug at least.
