Sound from the 4WD....?

I have a pick up hilux made of toyota company and its model is 2003. Recently I was on long drive and suddenl I heard a sound from the 4WD shaft. When I keep the 4WD leaver in neutal no sound... advise me...

It may be a u-joint in the front drive line going out

Does it only make the sound when you're rolling? Does the 4wd still work? What kind of sound is it?
