what does it mean to dream of guns?

I dreamed that someone rang my doorbell and asked to use the toilet. He was dresed in the uniform of a local shop, so I wasn't suspicious. But as I opened the gate he reached into his pants where he had a gun concealed. I grabbed the gun from him and managed to escape, but didn't know if he was still in the house or if he had another weapon. I think I may have shot him, too.

For some background, I strongly disapprove of guns for anyone except the police.

Erm, I doubt I'm a future serial killer. I've never even been in a fistfight.

Here's some more background: I have never had a gun pointed at me, but I was mugged at knifepoint twice this year, one time in my home town. I still have to walk on the street where it happened, but my town actually has a low crime rate and it was a bit of a freak occurrence.

Before I went to bed, I did 3 things with my evening: I invigilated a test (I'm on a bursary), I went out for drinks with friends from class (one guy got very drunk and told us too too much about his sexual fantasies), and I checked my facebook account, where someone had left me a stupid forwarded message about being homies, which included a picture of a gun.

I have dreamed of guns twice before in my life. One time was a year ago, when I dreamed I stumbled in on a robbery and got shot. The other time was a really bad dream when I was about 14, where gunmen burst in on my family and shot us all. But that was soon after that first school shooting in America and I think I was just a little scared.
