Last night as I was returning home from the theatre I decided to take a short cut through a local council estate and to be frank the sight that greeted me was appalling, a complete chavalanche of kids wearing sports clothing, standing around smoking, drinking and fighting. I saw one couple fornicating in a shop doorway, surely this is unacceptable to the honest, decent hard working people of Britain.
So I propose we either send these yobs to Iraq for a minimum of 2 years or we carpet bomb these estates and get rid of the vermin once and for all.

Grrrr I hate yobs with a vengeance! This country has an ignorant overpaid Goverment creating namby pamby laws more focused on rehabilitation rather than a good decent punishment, Ignore police crime statistics as most crimes go unreported all types of crime is at a rediculous all time high its right there in front of our eyes. The police are banging thier heads against brick walls there is'nt much they can do! Murders are getting lighter sentences, Paedophiles re-homed near schools! The list goes on!... Why did the goverment ban the smacking of children? They have got no idea! Yobs and criminals are just laughing in everybodies faces! I say re open alcatraz send them all there let them all rob, kill, molest each other! Break a thieves hands so he cant use them to steal again cut off a paedophiles hands and genitals now thats proper punishment i'm sure re offending wont be an issue then! .... Yep I think i really despise yobs grrr!

Have you thought this out? Instead of having disorganised physically unfit yobs you would have healthy yobs who really knew how to fight! When Nat. Service was in use Britain was a very different country, people were largely polite with each other and there was a general respect for the law. That isn't so now, and it will be even more untrue tomorrow. Get used to it; in ten or twenty years you will look back with nostalgia to today, these will be 'The good old days!'

I live in cyprus and at 18 the boys have to do army service for 2 years, so like everyone else my brother did it when he turned 18 and from a very mild mannerred, great sense of humour...his manner turned a lot more aggressive and he just suddenly thought he was the big man, acting in a chauvinistic behaviour, that he never had done before. I was reading an article the opinion of one of the oldest men in britain thought about bringing back national service, and was expecting a very old fashioned point of view, but what he said is the most sensible thing ive heard on this issue, he said that back in his day he had his mum waiting at home to spoil him and just society in general has changed so much today, most families are split up, kids are given too much freedom...its just such a different era.
Im sure you probably will give me the thumbs down for this answer, but all im saying is bringing in compulsary national service wont be a miracle solution for yob culture in britain, im sure it would work on many people, but others could turn out even worse thinking there invincible with the training theyve had....i think it will take years and years to sort out the problem with yobs as it wasnt dealt with properly for so many years, first of all for me would be stricter sentences, kids under 16 know they wont go to jail so arent scared of authority and as far as im concerned that is all down to the parents...enough of blaming schools, police and goverment...where are the parents when these youths are commiting crimes, if kids aint got respect for their own family, theyre not going to show respect to no one.
Ive got a better idea than yours anyway...What if the goverment stopped giving council flats to single mums? Percentage of single mums are brilliant let me just get in first, but we all know people or of people that at 16 or so that have said the only reason they got pregnant was so they could get a council flat.

Crispy i totally agree.
The government would actually do something about this, If they werent called the Labour Party.
Basically Gordon Brown has more serious issues on his mind at the moment. E.g, when he's next meeting with his best friend George Bush, and what present to buy for him.
These little Yobs who love to terrorise other people, should all be taught a lesson. So yes crispy, Lets go to Iraq and take out those innocent soldiers, and replace them with these idiotic immature yobs.
Then when one of them gets killed in a gun fire, we wont care.
Perfect.
And also, I think all those lazy slobs on council estates should be forced to get off their lazy ars*s and get a job. Instead of thriving off the government like leaches.

I do not agree. The British Army is not responsible for the nation's discipline.
The British Army does not want 'trash' in it's ranks. It wants professional soldiers of any race colour or creed, who will serve with the Colours and then a three year stint on the Reserve when they have finished their service time.
If there was ever one group of people I disliked most when I was a Regular and Professional soldier [1957-1965] Boy Soldier and Regular, it was the National Servicemen. These wankers spent most of their time checking days off charts and moaning about everything.
If you have been a soldier, then I am asking myself why are you asking this question?

I have my own proposal. Mainly it's for smackheads rather than just yobs but the two tend to be interchangeable where I live. What I would like is for all of them to be stuck on a ship in the middle of the North Sea. Supply them with one car stereo between the lot of them. Then let them all nick it off each other and see how they bloody well like it. We could even film it all and put it on Channel 4 instead of Big Brother.

No. The Forces are a disciplined body trained to a high standard. Due to cuts perpetrated by successive governments they are now below the strength required to carry out all the jobs thrown at them. The last thing they need is to be forced to waste time training a bunch of idiots who, in the vast majority of cases, will never be of any use.
If you want to put a stop to the behaviour you witnessed, bring back public birching.

Bit of a sweeping statement this. Council house yobs! Many come off private estates and so-called good families who throw the teenagers out onto the streets "for a bit of peace and quiet". Even PRINCE HARRY has caused trouble! They are found in all sections of society, whether is be working,middle or upper-class. They can be worse if they think Daddy can buy them out of trouble. So come on be fair ALL Yobs should be given conscription and made to face up to their behaviour. So don't label one section of society it occurs in all. (By the way I DON'T live in a council house either). Just trying to be fair.

I think your idea of making 'yobs and vermin' as you call them join up for national service is ludicrous, do you not think that the professional serviceman has enough to worry about as it is? It is hard enough trying to survive the rigours of life in the services without conscripts. Our Armed Forces are the best in the world and we should all be proud of them, we should not force 'yobs and vermin' into their ranks.

Couldn`t agree more with your sentiments, the trouble with national service or prison is that they come out better equipped to commit crime, the only thing about Iraq is that a few of them will get killed, I live on a council estate and I`m sick of the scum.
