well, u said that they are running to the same line at the same speed but you didnt say that they started at the same spot so maybe the winner got a head start or something like that

Because the other runner is running from the opposite direction (meaning towards each other), on a shorter distance than the other.

The winner could have started earlier, started closer, or run a shorter path (tighter turns, etc.).

maybe because
•one leg is longer
•one started out better
•one doesnt get tired eaily
•ones family or gf/bf/friends is on the side and they want to impress then
and thats as many reasons i can think of

One's foot is pointed out (flexed) as he/she crosses the line so his toes get there first. The other, maybe he/she approaches the finish line with the ball of his/her foot or the heal?
