This poor woman, a well-known singer, was brutally tortured because of her religion, but was refused by the UK, or rather left waiting endlessly as her health deteriorated. Only Denmark accepted her.
Makes me ashamed to be British.

Ok, I see people don't want to read the link, which is fair enough. The woman was a gospel singer in Eritrea, was kept in prison for 30 months and tortured, is now confined to wheelchair, after campaigning by Amnesty etc she was released, travelled to Sudan, where she was still not safe, applied at the UK embassy to come here, but eventually Denmark offered ber sanctuary.
She's no religious extremist. People that hate all asylum-seekers are just heartless.

Sadly for that poor woman, all the bogus, opportunistic "asylum seekers" who are travelling through several safe countries and coming here dishonestly to get what they can from this country are making life much harder for the genuine cases like her.
As we are a Christian country though it would have been nice if we could have helped her. However we can't help everyone.

The rule about claiming asylum is that you shouldn't travel all the way to the UK for the benefits (and the benefits are generous so no wonder why people travel miles to get here!) you should claim asylum in the first country to come to ...
Atleast she was accpeted by someone - in all fairness we've accepted too many, maybe this is the end of immigration? Hope so!

i think you'll find this poor woman is an exception,
not the rule.
praps you'd better read the link below.
the government has been lying about the amount of migrants we have let in.
" Since Poland joined the EU in 2004 and Britain, unlike France and most other members, welcomed Polish workers, an estimated 1.1 million Poles, mainly young, have come to Britain. Today, they are the third-largest group of immigrants in the country, behind Irish and Indians " .

Now the government are going to bribe them to go home!
" Failed asylum seekers who agree to leave the UK voluntarily will be able to get private school and university fees funded by the British taxpayer under a new scheme launched today. Some may even get a salary boost for the first three months if they leave the UK with a 12-month job contract back home. The maximum hand-out - including a £500 boost after six months - will also rise from £1,500 to £2,500.The updated version of the so-called Voluntary Assisted Returns and Reintegration Programme (VARRP) will be operated for the Home Office by the International Organisation for Migration (IMO). Applicants will be eligible for a range of benefits in exchange for leaving Britain by choice "

how much they'll waste on this idea before they discover it's abused, like so many of our systems open to all-comers out to swindle & con the tax-payers of the UK.

As a white, middle-class tax paying Englishman i can honestly say i don't hate asylum seekers, i do have the government for pandering to them though, i went to the council and asked them for a house (that had been vacant for 12 months and newly refurbed) they told me NO i am not a priority, so i explained i had a job and was willing to pay rent, they said NO i told them i have nowhere to go no parents or friends to put me up even on their sofa, they said tough i was not their problem as i was not a priority, i then asked why was the house refubed if the wont rent it , they told me it was on standby for asylum seekers ! they put brand new ! not reconditioned but brand new furniture and white goods in it all for someone who comes over here with no intention of integrating & hasnt paid a penny tax to this country .. thats what i hate ..the fact that these people come to my counrty with their hands out and everything that i have paid towards from my wages (working from the age of 16) is handed over.. it's fairness we ask for.. it's people like you that let this happen .. we need to get our own country sorted before helping others, we have people on the streets, we have our own murderers and rapists to lock up, i want MY money spent on MY family and in MY street and on lowering MY taxes ... you communist pr*ck take a look around the world communism dont work

I thought all asylum seekers were tortured before they left their own country.
And why was Denmark the ONLY country to accept her?
I can't really comment about this case as I know nothing about it but how many many times do we hear sob stories from asylum seekers, some of whom when finally allowed to stay, go back to their own countries for holidays and visit their families. Countries who's governments are supposed to have authorised their incarceration and torture. (They are usually tortured).

A lot of economic migrants are travelling to all the European bloc countries now.Eastern Europe has many more ready to move in,any sane person would do the best for their families. As you point out ,the religious zealots, who misinterpretate the readings and teachings, of their own religion, to force their will on the ignorant, impressionable, young and stupid followers,do it only for their own ends and power over the ignorant. As for being ashamed to be British,i am just ashamed to be human.

And why exactly did she have to come to Britain? She'll of traveled across numerous safe countries to get here, there is no reason whatsoever why Britain should have to house all the worlds asylum seekers!

the laws laid out for asylum seekers are clear. you go across the nearest border, apply for asylum and they have to look at your case. 99% of all asylum seekers that hit Britain have come across several borders to get here and we are not legaly bound to accept them. i dont know why we even procces them. we should simply turn them back by force. when will people like you wake up to the fact that Briton cannot save the whole world. the fact is!! the our ship will eventualy capsise with the burdon of so many. and we will all go down. wake up for god sake. yes its sad. but their are a million people dying every day. we do twice as much as we can realisticly cope with allready.

There must be something particularly permissive about getting into and living in the UK because I am sent dozens of scam attempts in my email every week, and a huge chunk of it seems to be coming from the U.K. They set up sweat rooms and scam shops there, recruiting from the illegals and crooks they find roaming around London society who are typically from other countries. I wish I knew why the U.K. has become over run with these international miscreants, but it is sad because it is a great society otherwise.

I think there has been a lot of things going around on this subject regarding asylum seeking. A lot of people just want to come into this country just for the sake of getting benefits and living here. Because thats the only way.
We tax payers have to sacrifice homes for them.
Say you wanted a council home ( I'm sure you got yours) you'd probably be the last because you have a full time job and you get paid above the minimum wage.
Loads of things to mention.
But i think its time to put your foot down.
