I don't know all the complicated ins and outs of it, and I'm sure trainablilty varies from dog to dog, BUT I do know of a wonderful book that can help you! It's called 'The Perfect Puppy' - look it up on amazon and you should find it! I'm considering a dog and am reading it at the moment, but haven't got up to sit, speak and roll over commands. It's a really good book, though - and not full of complicated jargon like some others! I highly reccomend it to you; 2 of my friends used it to train their puppies, and both dogs are wonderful, well behaved and just perfect!! It contains all you need to know about training, so if you have some time on your hands try it!! It's really helpful.

Good Luck!!

PS: I love bichon frises! I bet she'll make a really good dog for you! :D

Look into a dog obedience class, preferably at a local dog training club. this is very good not only for teaching commands but also for socialization. They often have puppy classes.

My dog loves going to school!

i own two bichons and with them you have to be very firm or they will try and ignore you...
when putting them into the sitting position say the word once their bottom has touched the floor..not before or they will get confused.. do a ten to fifteen minute training session everyday..
Roll over will be a hard one as i find mine dont want to unless they want their bellies rubbed..
Reward with treats that will motivate them more..
do a search for bichon.ca, its a great site for bichon owners..
I am a member of there and they can offer you tons of advice based on experience..
welcome to the world of bichon owning...
Also if you can pick up a book on bichons, it will explain so much in there including basic training.

I know with sit, what I always do is I take a treat. I let the dog see the treat and I hold it right in front of his nose. Do not let him get the treat.
Now with the treat directly in front of the nose bring it over his head slowly (he'll be bending he neck backwards) and say sit while you are doing this. His head will go so far back and then he will naturally sit. Very easy to do.

small dogs are a little different and difficult. they seem to have a mind of their own and love their owner and be a lap dog.
you may get some training out of him/her but don't expect too much.
enjoy, u have a beautiful dog.
