I have always heard that when a dog tastes blood that they need to be put down. Is this true? I had my dog neutored and I have been trying my best to keep him from licking his sutures. However, my dog acts like he enjoys the taste of his own blood. Is my once wonderful dog going to be a rabid violent blood loving sucking dog now? What should I do?

Do nothing! A dog knows how to keep his wounds clean. His saliva will kill bacterias. However, if he continues to the point of opening the sutures, he may need a lampshade collar.
Don't worry about his affinity for blood, it's instinctual. It won't mean he will be any more or less aggressive. The loss of hormones from the neutering will most likely lead to inactivity if you let him. As soon as he's healed enough, go on long walks or runs to get his metabolism up.

Of course not. He is cleaning his sutures to try to help them heal. Try to keep him from licking so much. It's not good for the sutures. You can buy a large plastic collar to put on him for a couple of days so he can't reach his stitches.
Dogs eat raw meat all the time and don't act crazy. That is an old wives tale.

No and an animal cant become rabid by tasting its own blood. It has to come in contact with the saliva or blood of already infected animal.

Dogs aren't vampires! He is not going to eat himself either after tasting his own blood! It isn;t that they taste blood and become blood thirsty, its because they have suceeded in being a hunter. They have learnt how to be self sufficient as far as they are concerned, and, in your dogs mind, he thinks he has figured out how to be independant in a way that he understands. It is a hard habit to break, as you would know, dogs think they are hungry most of the time and if they have been allowed to learn how to get thier own meals, it is extremely hard to stop them without physically restraining them. Your dog will need failproof containment if this is the case. Licking his stitches will not make him attack livestock.

That is just a silly superstition - rather like cats stealing your soul !
All your dog is doing is trying to keep the wound clean - it's hurting him and stitches always itch.

No, it is not, I have fed RAW bloody meat to mine and none are bloodthirsty or the least aggressive. Milk doesn't cause worms either and gunpowder kills the dog, it doesn't make it mean.
