I was told that most of them have nasty tempers?

If you treat them like priceless babies they do get spoiled and nasty. The downfall to the breed is their small size makes them seem like babies. They are just like a child in many ways. And they often get spoiled. It's mostly due to how they are treated.

Are Chihuahuas Dogs

2016-11-16 07:10:39 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

I wouldn't say chihuahuas are "mean" dogs. It is all about how you raise them for how their temperment is. It is kind of like a child. Children are not born bratty or mean, but they can be raised that way.
I have two chihuahuas and neither are mean. Chihuahuas can be territorial and since they are so little, I think it makes them more defensive than a big dog. Both of my chihuahuas will bark if they think that someone is at the house or if they see a stranger approach the back yard. But towards my husband and me, they are super sweet and loving. One will curl up on the top of my husband's neck and sleep there at night.
So to answer your question I think any dog can be mean and have a nasty temper if they are raised that way, but I don't think chihuahuas are born that way.

Not all of them are mean,
Some owners with little kids in the house are bad tempered sometimes because the kid doesn't treat the dog with proper care. Some aren't socialized and that is sometimes key to bad temper. Its ALL up to the owner and people living in the house and how the dog is treated. It isn't "known" for chihuahuas to have bad tempers but with little unruly kids in the house some tend to go a little haywire, they are very protective and tend to label themselves boss.
You should make them boss of the people not boss of the house because then you start having problems.
I own a chihuahua and she is a good tempered dog and loves to play with other dogs. Bottom line is some are, some aren't.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU8a6

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Chihuahuas are truly a very sensitive breed, but that doesn't mean that they don't have attitude because they have plenty of that! I have a two-month-old male and he never ceases to make me smile - not to mention laugh. What a clown! I would recommend a Chihuahua to anyone except families with children five years old and under. That is just too young to have to deal with the responsibility of owning a Chihuahua. They are surprisingly hardy, but they are somewhat fragile when it comes to being stepped on, sat on, etc.

I can only speak of my experience with Chihuahuas! Chihuahuas are no meaner, than any other breed can be! All dog breeds can be mean, if not socialized early, trained properly, and given a lot of love. I breed and I have 10 healthy Chihuahuas of my own, 4 Boys and 6 Girls, and I have never seen any of them, show any form of aggression to anyone. They were socialized and handled by different people we know, when they were young, they love small children and adults, their training took a lot of time and patience, and they are all very loved. I could not ask for better companions and I can't imagine my life without my little ones here with me and my family. I love all breeds, but in my eyes, Chihuahuas are definitely my favorite breed. I love all of mine dearly! I call them "Little Dogs With Very Big Hearts"!

I have known well bred Chihuahuas who were the friendliest guys on earth but a poorly bred one and one treated as a purse accessory tends to be fear aggressive. Too many people think the widdle doggy is cute when he gets nasty. There have been many top obed. titled Chihuahuas too so it is possible to bred sound Chis both phyiscally and mentally.

No dogs are evil when they are born, just like humans, but their surroundings may affect their characteristics, although some breed' s temperament can have a temper, but they can be raised not to be aggresive, although some breed can be hard to change their consiousness towards people.

Not at all if they come from good breeding and are raisd right. I have owned these little dogs for pver 30 yr and been raising them over 9 and I have NEVER owned a mean chihuahua. And all my dogs are treated like my children, so no, that does not make them mean either. None of mine have ever been professionally trained. They don't need it. All they need to be a well rounded happy,, well mannered dog is lots of love.
