She comes from a christian family. We are 25 been dating almost a year and agreed to wait a year to get married. We are also saving sex with each other until married.

Thing is even though her parents like me they do know about some of the problems in our relationship and I am a little uncomfortable with the idea of asking them for her hand in marriage. Not so much that they would say no, but that they would grill me about our issues we've been having lately.

Can't I just forgo this? It is after all her decision. Her sister married a guy her parents knew was bad and would end in divorce and they still let them get married. I just feel stupid about asking for permission...

When you get married, the parents come along as part of the package. So make sure all the package is good, by doing the traditional thing. If they follow tradition as well they will say yes and not grill you.

And if you have 'issues', maybe the parents will be helpful. A good adage is: "a trouble shared is a trouble halved"

Don't ever ask for their permission, if you feel the need to ask for anything, ask for their support and blessing, for you and her.
That way, even if they don't give it, you can still move on with her.
