She is the daughter of Jack Schitt & No Schitt and the wife of one of the Happens Brothers. Read On:

Awe Schitt, the fertilizer magnate, married O Schitt, the owner of kneedeep N. Schitt, Inc.
In turn, Jack Schitt married Noe Schitt, and the deeply religious couple produced six children: Holie Schitt

Giva Schitt
Bull Schitt
and the twins, Deep Schitt and Dip Schitt.
Against her parents' wishes, Deep Schitt married Dumb Schitt, a high school dropout. After being married 15 years, Jack and Noe Schitt divorced.
Noe Schitt later married Mr. Sherlock, and because her kids were living with them, she wanted to keep her previous name. She was then known as Noe Schitt-Sherlock.
Dip Schitt married Loda Schitt and they produced a nervous son, Chicken Schitt.
Fulla Schitt and Giva Schitt were inseparable throughout their childhood and subsequently married the Happens brothers in a dual ceremony.
The wedding announcement in the newspaper announced the Schitt-Happens wedding.

I'd always assumed that 'sh*t' was used here because it's something of very little value (let's ignore composters for the moment): so you're implying that object x isn't even worth a lump of faeces.
On the other hand, that doesn't really explain 'give a f*ck' or 'give a damn'. My guess would be that 'give a sh*t' came first and that the other two were based on it: one being more vulgar, the other being less.

It was first I don't give ........... then you say something that is unimportant , like I dont give a damn , it is used to show how you cannot care less about something .
THEN shite used as the unimportant thing for effect , as shite is arguably not important to anyone .

It means that you can't even be bothered to pass faeces - ie you couldn't care less. It is not a very attractive expression.
