It depends on the command and the needs of the Army at the time. If the commander is understanding and the soldier has proper documentation (I mean REALLY anybody can claim this without it being true!) then usually they will try to work with you. Depends on how advanced the cancer is, how aggressive, etc. Are we talking skin cancer( not melanoma) or lymphatic here? kwim? What the docs recommendations are, etc. That would all be taken into account.

Honestly the best thing would be for him to be Rear Detachment in my book - as this keeps him in the military with benefits yet not downrange.
Some commanders would put him on RearD until her treatments are done and then he would still deploy, there are many different scenarios. He would just have to be honest and willing to work with the command, she would not have to expect the moon - him constantly at her side.

If they don't know about these things they can't help you! To many people don't ask for help and then whine, complain and ***** when the military is so awful!

This is very vague but i would go thur my chain of command and try to work out a way to be with the wife ,most likely that is not a good enough reason to get out of a deployment if any thing bad happens the Red Cross will call and he could go back for emergency leave.

The sad reality is like the 2nd answerer answered.
Ive seen people who have gone through far worse be denied time back home.

Unless is comparable to death or extremely serious event, you wont stop the deployment.

My best guess would be for him tolook into how long after he would get a hardship discharge could he reeneter.

Im not sure if its 2 years, but maybe now with the way things are and the need for soldiers they might be able to work with him.

Talk to everyone you can...chain of command, chaplain, recruiter.

He would probably have to get out altother to be with his familymember, then reenter at a later time.

Which might not be a bad thing.
His wife will need him.
The army will always be there...

he will have to have his wife's doctor make a statement that she is terminal and not expected to live, or that absolutely no one else on the planet is available to take care of her.

Otherwise, chances are slim. IF he has a decent CO, he may get left behind in Rear Det, or have his deployment rescheduled, but in most cases, nope.
