many moons ago, i would almost say late seventies there was a cider on the market called peardrax, made from pears obviously. but it was there amongst the bulmers woodpecker ciders and all the rest. then it just disappeared. no one even asked me if it was okay, just lifted and hightailed it out of there with it. can anyone tell me if it still exists somewhere?

deeply appreciate it.

'Peardrax originated in the United Kingdom, and was first manufactured by Whiteway's, a now-defunct cider company. As of 2007 it is bottled and distributed only by Pepsi-Cola Trinidad Bottling Company, under license since 2004 from Gaymer Cider Company*......... It vanished from UK shelves in 1988, suffering from plummeting sales, but sales of the beverage continued in Trinidad and Tobago to the point that "Trinidadians and Tobagonians now see the drink as a defining part of the culture of their twin-island republic.' Maybe a trip to Trinidad and Tobago would seem even more attractive now! (Second site carries a news item from the BBC website, dated April 2007).
* Gaymer, the UK's second-biggest cider maker, is best known for its Blackthorn, Olde English and Diamond White brands. They continue to receive royalties from sales of Peardrax and Cydrax in Trinidad

Pear cider - or perry, to give it its proper name - is alive and well in the West Country. See http://www.brotherscider.co.uk/
