People knock on your door to spread 'the word of god'?

Every so often on a saturday this happens to me and it really, really annoys me! If I wanted to know about god or someone else's faith, I would ask them!

Am I alone in this?

I don't believe anyone should try and force religion down anybodys throat.
I just tell them i love blood and they look at me strange and hurry off.

Do they want to spread the word of God? Or do they want you to join an organisation as distinct from becoming a Christian? Usually it is the organisation that they are interested in. I think it's wise to beware of anyone who wants people to join a 'Christian' organisation, large or small. These people are desperate to get you and keep you away from real Christianity (like many people who post on religious forums etc. on the internet). Now that is surely something to think about, is it not.

If it's the same people who knock on the door, and they know that you are not interested, then it seems not only impolite, but a waste of their own time. If it is a lot of different groups of people, it is not rude, imv. If one's eternal destiny can be changed through a knock on the door, and some people believe that it can be, then perhaps one should be grateful that someone cares. Who knows what will happen after death?

If the people concerned are Jehovah's Witnesses or Mormons, who keep knocking on the same doors, you are not being cared about, except negatively. These are some of the faux Christians desperate to keep you away from real Christianity.

No you are not alone and are absolutely right. We have JW's wandering around our village on a regular basis - you can spot them a mile off because they look so smart and straight out of any Enid Blyton novel - not the usual appearance of country village folk. I want to know why they assume I don't already have a dialogue going on with God, I want to know why they assume I need help - it's religious vanity I think and there's a lot of it about. No way do religious people have the moral high ground. My philosophy is to cut out the middle man/woman and go straight to the big guy in the sky.... if he exists ......

Edit: They are supposed to spread the word of God - they're just not as good at it as your Jesus guy was, now there was someone who could hold a crowd.

Phoenix, I like your idea. I've emailed you for a copy.

I get the Christian Science people. The ones who do not believe in medicine.

First of all it is rude to show up at someone's house without calling first.

Second, they usually send a little old lady and I respect my elders so I just say "No thank you" and close the door.

When they send the 2 young guys dressed like mafia hit men. It depends what mood I am in, sometime I will mess with them and tell them I don't believe and have no desire to change because my 13 year old cousins Mother was a Christian Science Follower and how he died from a bust appendix because she was too busy PRAYING OVER HIM to take him to the ER and guess what folks? HE DIED

. Other times I just want to get rid of them so I lie and tell them I am a Catholic (that scares them for some reason). Lying in this case is not a sin if you don't believe in God, right?

Hi.Yes i agree. They should respect your privacy.Trying to preach the word of God by knocking on your door is not the way to go. You are not going to sit around waiting for somebody to knock on you door to tell you how you can be "saved".I don't like to be rude to people but if you let them start quoting from the Bible, they won't go away.I tell them i am a Catholic (which i am) and they usually leave .

Not so much rude as a pain in the neck, if they have the time to go round doors, when clearly they are annoying people, then perhaps they should use this time to help people, actions are louder than words

Yes, it is incredibly rude and also unsafe, they might just get snatched inside a house, and then what? I do believe that a person's beliefs are important to them, however, you do not have the right to invade someones privacy to impress your beliefs upon others, so what if they came across a frigging CANNIBAL house, and the people eaters inside wanted to force the JW down THEIR throats, literally?? They better be careful knocking on doors of strangers!!!(Ooh, that s#!t even scared me...)

Those are the Jehova witnesses. The man who started this sect told them they should go out to 'convert' as many people as possible..sadly they do. The best way to get them to leave you alone is to just say that you go to your own church, they then know you are a lost cause to them. If you say you don't believe, they will try to convince you.

What's the difference between a Jehova's Witness and a Lada?
You can close the door on a Jehova's Witness.

No you are not alone. It has happened to me three times in ten months. The first three times I was really nice, maybe too nice. The fourth time I yelled, "No way!" and did not answer the door. I will get thumbs down for this but I don't see me as doing anything wrong here. You can not force your will onto others. It is that simple.

When I was 18 I got out the bath to answer the door, either Witnesses or Mormons, 2 middle-aged women. Towel fell off. Problem solved.

It is an intrusion and I do resent it.

If you were a perv would you grab one of these? Ugh!

When my dad was young, a Jehovah's Witness came to the door one day. He listened patiently while they went through their spiel then when they asked him if he followed any religion, he replied that yes he did - it was Satanism! They apparently couldn't get away quick enough!!! haha!!

But for myself, I hate having religion shoved down my throat. I have my own beliefs and I don't enforce them on others. It's worse when it is in your own home as it is an invasion of privacy and private time. I'm always polite to those who come to my door as there is no point in being rude, but I do agree with you that it is really annoying!! lol
