I met this girl in my English class, whom I have a crush on. I saw her twice walking to class and the first time, she waved and said hi towards my direction, but I thought she was saying hi to somebody behind me, and I didn't want to seem stupid saying hi back when she might be actually saying hi to somebody else. Well the second time I saw her walking to class and she again said hi and waved, but again I thought she was saying hi to somebody behind me and just walked off with a smile. Well after I passed by her, I looked back and there was nobody there!!! Now I just feel really akward but I want to start a conversation. It's pretty pathetic but I'am actually 22 and I'm not usually a shy person except in front of somebody I like. any suggestions???

You are very eloquent with this question and you need to track this young woman down and tell her that you have wanted to say hi to her but are shy and thought she was always waving to someone behind you. Tell her if she ever is without a boyfriend, just incase there is someone, you would like to go to the library and out for a coke together. Tell her you could always use another friend. Maybe like you, she is shy and she saw in you a kindred soul. The worst that can happen is you find out she isn't that nice or she isn't available and you are no worse off than you are now. So get a move on it!!!! Find out her name, say "hi Cindy Sue! or whatever but be persistent and pleasant. Then let your adventure unfold as you get to know each other. In all reality you need to start building yourself up instead of second guessing. Truth Hurts is right but didn't give any direction. This sounds stupid but it has worked for me and everyone else I've told to do it. Put on nice clothes you feel comfortable and good looking in, do your hair, stand in front of a mirror (even if you can only see your face) and complement yourself. Talk about your strengths and how you can overcome you weaknesses. This puts a firm positive mental self image in your brain. Your toughest critic is in the mirror, and it's time to convince that cynic that he is WRONG. The first few times do it long enough to get used to it. After that it will get easier, then you really press. Stay in front of that mirror until the uneasiness of the act has been lost to you. Next thing you know that ubergoddess will be just another Betty - a real girl you can talk to. This will spread to every part of your life. Our brains are nothing more than circus animals, you can train them to do anything. You've trained yours to think other human beings are above you. We all poop, puke, and cry just the same.
