okay, i tried playing FFVIII on my PS2, but I dunt wanna break it! so I just wanna ask if it's gonna work well...
and wut about PS3? If I can't play PS2 games on PS3, I'm just gonna get Wii for Christmas

Yes you can. Best PS3 for PS2/PS1 games - US or japanese 60GB (it has a chip for that) - more than 90% games can be played. 80GB runs old games on software - around 80% games can be played. 40GB version doesn't play PS2 games - only PS1 games can be played.
Just remeber one thing: PS3 games are region free, PS2/PS1 games aren't.
PS2 can run PS1 games from the same region.

You can play ps1 games on the ps2 and 3, you can play the ps2 on the ps3 game console as well, but you cant play ps2 or ps3 on the ps1 system.

ps and ps2 cds can be played on the ps3 but u need to make sure that they are from the same region as where u bought ur ps3 ... however ps cds can easily be played on ps2 (backward compatibility in ps2 is region free).
