You had an abscess, the swelling will go down now that the tooth is out, sometimes it takes 4 or 5 days. But once all the infection has worked its way out you'll be cool and stop looking like a chipmunk. Don't smoke though cause you might get a dry socket- worst pain ever!

I had a molar pulled out a little over a decade ago after repeated attempts to save it failed. The tooth itself had had a root canal so it wasn't painful. However, the gum tissue below it definitely was infected and it hurt. The tooth had a large crown with pins that went down into the roots to anchor it. They started to come loose until they got to the point where I could actually pull off the crown, which I did while sitting in a class one night. I looked at the remnants of the tooth and the gum area around it. It was so infected that the tissue was black. Once the crown was off, the infection started to clear up a bit and I made an appointment to have the tooth extracted. The extraction took about half an hour due to its being a below gum extraction. I had to get a couple of stitches put in to close up the gaping wound. I had a little bit of swelling in my face for a few days afterwards. Apparently, it's not an unusual reaction to the extraction of an infected tooth and it should clear up now that the source of the infection is gone.

Hi

I would say yes. Two days is still quite early regarding healing. If the infection was present pre- extraction and you are on a coarse of antibiotics (?) then give it some more time. If you do have some doubts then ring your dentist and express your concerns.

Did they pescribe any antibiotics? The infection can drain and you can also obtain swelling from the extraction if it was difficult.
But if you were swollen before the extraction I would call the dentist and get some antibiotics.
Swelling and bruising can show up up to 3 days after the treatment.
