The Pentax K1000 is considered the best "student camera" ever made. If you were to buy one and 3 or 4 lenses and later decided to go digital with the Pentax K100D Super or K10D your older K-mount lenses will work with the digital Pentax.

That was difficult to write because I'm a long time user of Minolta cameras. However, I'm also a realist. My collection of older Minolta lenses would require an adapter to be used on the Sony DSLR line. (Sony bought Minolta's DSLR technology and manufacturing facilities in 2006 when Minolta dropped out of photography). I'll put my Minolta SRT-202 up against any camera from its era.

I have a Nikon N75. I love this camera, takes beautiful pictures! I think they run for under $200 with a lens now. Film cameras are so much cheaper now because of the popularity of digital, it's a great time to buy if you have always wanted a really good film camera.

Edit - Hey, another Rush in Connecticut.
