Hello guys and gals... I have been recently offered a job in Bangkok with $ 3000 net salary. My prospective employer is paying for the Income Tax and covering the rent electricity & water bills. Pls tell me if $3000 salary is enough to have a above average lifestyle along with my wife, which includes once a week going to pub, eating out and shopping. What kind of salary is this in Bangkok - below average, average, above average, good, very good, excellent, wow ! I have 8 years of working experience.......Pls help me in taking the decision

It depends on ... sufficient for what? What life style do you and your wife expect to have?
I doubt many Western couples would be happy with the life style USD 3,000 net in BKK can provide ... unless they take the posting/job as an opportunity to live in / learn about a different culture.
USD 3,000 will give you an above average lifestyle compared to Thai averages, but ... to be honest, a foreigner with a master degree and a limited work experience should expect to be making USD 3,000/month if employed in the private sector.

As you have said it depends on how expat you and your wife are.
A meal in a farang (foreigner) restuarant will always cost you more than a Thai resturant as will you food at the local supermarket.
If you get a maid this may actually help keep your costs down, by letting her go with your wife to buy food. And let her cook for you.
Maid costs 4000 to 9000 baht a month (my wife is Thai so we only pay 4000 for live-in)
Have a look at www.bambi-bangkok.com (even if you don't have a kid)
Always try and find an apartment near your workplace or on the skytrain or underground route. Again a maid will help you.
Price of beer always a major factor is from supermarkets is 30 baht for tiger/ singha and heiniken it is 60 baht from supermarket.
For cheap bars go to the likes of Soi 7/1 Boo Sa Bar you CAN take your wife there.
Cinema is 120 baht for a movie, DVD from pantip plaza.
Electrical goods can be more expensive than the states (since you quote your salary in dollars) You don't get the latest models here some times.
Mobiles are slightly cheaper.
My food bill for a family of 4 is 2000 baht for 2 weeks.

Your salary is very excellent for Thai people.
I have worked for 23 years and get only 1000 USD. per month but enough for billing as house, car, wife , two daughters, mobile phone, internet , everything make my family had good life.
The average good salary in Bangkok should be 1000-1200 USD. and 3000 USD is for the high executive.

I would say $2000 is enough to have a easy life.
I spend in bangkok never more than 1500$ (two people) and I have to pay for my apartment by myself.
With $3000 you can save a lot of money.
Average income in thailand (source UBS):
car mechanic - $275
sideworker on a building lot - $121
craftsman - $407
female worker - $154
engineer - $1035
manager - $1243
product executive - $1210
teacher - $341
bus driver - $319
cook - $549
assistant - $574
saleswoman - $231
call centre agent - $242
creditman - $539
And they have to pay the rent by themself!
A manager (foreigner) of a five star hotel in Bangkok make about $8000.

Bangkok, the capital of Thailand has equally old-world elegance and modern comfort offered up in a seemingly severe way, but generally with a pleased grin, see more with Hotelbye . At 1,600 square kilometres and counting, Bangkok is big, and the many different parts may be bewildering. In Bangkok you can visit the Grand Palace, one of the must-see with this city. The Grand Palace was integrated 1782 and for 150 decades the home of the Thai King, the Royal court and the administrative seat of government. The Grand Palace of Bangkok is really a Grand old dame that continues to own visitors in awe with its lovely architecture and complicated aspect, most of which really is a proud salute to the creativity and artistry of Thai people.

Since u r foreigner with 8 years of experience, in ma point of view that might b a bit below average. But it also up2 what kiind of work&how many day a week -- let say it up to ..u.
I gonna say only about the 3000 USD mean 30USD/day -- well i say u will have good life if yr lifestyle is not that classy but if it is it might b bit tight cause u got wife 2.
Umm...anyway Bangkok is a city that u n have an above average lifestyle with less money if compare 2 others like Singapore,Hong Kong,Japan,...etc.

Since $3,000 is net, you will have a very comfortable life with that salary. Food and clothes are cheap, and you can afford to have a maid. You can even save more than half your salary.
I recently had to make a similar decision and had to do the computation. Take that job. You will enjoy it here in Bangkok.

$3000 a month is a fortune for the average thai person but not or a foreigner with a higher standard of living.
I would try to negotiate for $4000 a month, then I imagine you could live the lifestyle you and your wife desire.
