Do you think everyone has mild cases of OCD?

No. I believe every one has doubts and weird things going on in their mind on weird days when occasionally they might have to wash their hands or check their stove or whatever for a short period of time, but that means they are normal, not that they have mild OCD. I have lived with mild OCD since I was about seven, and it's the real thing, and let me tell you, it is NOTHING like what normal people get. All through the day I have obsessional thoughts and stuff that sometimes have to be carried out and be satisfied, but since I usually don't have to satisfy my obsessions and it doesn't take hours out of the day to do, and most people can't immediately tell I have it, I'm classified as someone who has mild OCD.

But normal people that just sometimes have little obsessions every so often and say they have mild OCD should really stop saying so, as they have NO IDEA what it's like to live with this every day year after year, even if it's mild OCD, rather than more severe OCD where you have to take medication and therapy to have a normal life.

OCD is a term that's been starting to be used very casually, much like the word "retarded" or "midget". However harmless it might seem to many, these words can offend and put people off when people who actually have to live with these real conditions overhear the terms used like they aren't serious and aren't hard to deal with.

I think everyone doubts themselves at times.
The making sure we turned off the burner on the stove is an example. Did we lock the front door? Did we lock the car door? I believe when we doubt ourselves it is because we were not fully paying attention to performing these tasks the first time around. It helps me when I make an active effort to fully concentrate on what I am doing, being mindful so the doubt factor is not there. Best Wishes
