Being poor is having 3 kids, no job, on welfare, no transportation, trying to go to college by walking to school, being deducted $ from food stamps because your eldest child graduated from school, didn't enroll in college yet because it's summer and she can't get financial aid yet, it's trying to find something to feed the kids and not eating yourself until after school in the evening. It can mean NO child support again this month.

It's knowing that there isn't any presents for Christmas again THIS year, and you have to eat at your parent's house, with the kids, because you can't fix stuff in your own apt. for Thanksgiving. It's being ashamed and crying a lot, because you just want to be 'normal' and would like 'normal' things for your kids.

Being poor is trying to get your kids medical help and welfare doesn't pay for orthodontics and you have to find transportation to get your kid some medial help after 'hours'... Being poor means washing your laundry in the kitchen sink and having to dry them outside on a tree. Being poor means washing the dishes with shampoo when you ran out of soap.

Being poor means when people don't even hold a door open for you when you are a lady with kids. Being poor means your landlord doesn't have to fix things in your apt. until he feels like it and your tub is full of water for weeks. It means a lot of tuna, eggs and beans. It means you get to figure out which bills aren't going to get paid this month.
It means a lot of things to a lot of different people.

It means being humble and being grateful for what you do have. Maybe that is the right answer?

Being Poor, to me this means: Not having shelter, food, clothing, education.
Some people think that if you do not have the Fancier Things in life, that you are poor, I do not agree with spending money on things just to be able to make a good appearance.
Being Poor is a situation where you have Absoluting no needs for living a quality life.

When your poor, people make fun of you for the way you dress, even though there is nothing you can do about it. You do not get the proper foods to eat either which usually means you are sick alot. When your Poor your vehicle is not as shiny and new as others either and when your young is makes you jealous of others but it also sometimes motivates you to do better and rise above your situation. Ted Turner was an orphan, it can be done. Another thing to is your friends will tend to be poor also as you are sort of segregated. But being poor does not mean you have be to sad and it does not mean somebody is better than you, it just means their circumstances are different than yours and every person must do the best they can with what they have.

There are different degrees of poor - having no money at all with no job and no means of getting money to buy food, clothes or pay for somewhere to live. Having a little money compared to all those around you so that you can't join them for evenings out or take a holiday or eat as well as you should, or buy clothes for yourself and your children. It is all relative to what you have been used to or aspire to. There are also different types of poor - being poor in friends - poor in love, poor in education etc.

depending on whos stipulating the point. It is to be without that which is in abundance to others. To have no friends is being poor.. no money is poor.. bad health is poor.. being around certain friends can make you poor... being rich and yet alone can be considered poor.. being in good health with no one to care that you are is a fact of being poor.. So I suppose in all essence If you have everything and or nothing:If you have not someone to share your feelings with and only belong to yourself then Yes You are truly POOR

when a poor boy sandwich is the only thing you can afford to eat and that is white bread and 1 slice of bologna and you cannot afford the bread. Just the 1 slice of Bologna. and you have to beg just to get to be able to eat that. And you don't have 2 nickles to rub together, no place to live but maybe a box out in the cold if you are lucky, no checking account no saving account no insurance, probable no drivers license and that doesn't matter cause you do not have a car. if you did have a car at least you could sleep in it. when your life has hit that bottom there is no help anywhere despite the bullshit you hear that there is. the only thing you will get for free is another kick in your ***.

The definition of poor can vary for everyone.
the dictionary meaning of poor has so many definitions: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/poor
You could say someone is poor if they have no money, no house, no love, no family and friends, and no wisdom. Most people say someone who is poor is someone with no money. Which is true to say but id rather have no money then have no love around me, because no matter how much money you have you cant buy love.

To be treated like dirt, especially if you are in UK, sadly the divide is getting wider between rich and poor, which seems strange when you consider the respective governments say that is their priority to eradicate that division.

To be poor is to have little money
To be poor is to appreciate more things in life as they are
To be poor is to have good friends, as they're poor to and join forces with you.
To be poor is to be happy
To be poor is to be simple
Nothing wrong with being poor
Most people that are poor are happier than those with lots of money
But do not confuse being poor with poverty where you have absolutely none of the above.
