I have a 8 1/2 month old Cocker Spaniel puppy, who gets LOTS of attention (I spend all day with her), has chew toys everywhere, yet still wants to chew my underwear. And it's ONLY mine she's chewing. Yes, it's gross. We know that. How do I make it stop? She's enlisted the cat, and they keep digging it out of baskets, drawers, and hampers.

Look at it from your dog's point of view.

Dog loves owner. Owner goes away for a little while. Dog gets anxious, looks for something to soothe itself with. It comes across a piece of your underwear and is comforted by your scent. Dog starts to chew it, and immediately starts to feel better.

See the kind of message your pup is receiving? The message is: when I chew this thing that smells like my owner, all my frustration and anxiety is relieved.

Everytime you allow your puppy to start chewing something that belongs to you, it is just ONE incident but immediately teaches her that chewing your stuff is a good thing, and it can lead to her eventually seeking out your things for chewing.

You need to supervise your dog VERY carefully, and make sure she has a toybox. That means, don't leave her chew toys lying around. Put them in a box or a basket, any container as long as your puppy can go to it and easily take out items on her own. For the first week or so, put a tiny smear of peanut butter or cheez whiz on each toy once a day (tiny! so she doesn't detect it till she reaches the toy box).

So now you have a toy box for your dog. She's out playing, and maybe she's playing with one of her toys. Keep a watchful eye on her. When she starts looking for your underwear, step in (when she is actually looking at it, sniffing it or chewing it, NOT before). Interrupt immediately and say "No!" or whatever your "bad dog" word is.
Once she has looked over to you, rush her happily and cheerfully to her toy box, and help her find a nice toy to play with instead. Encourage her by playing a little game with her with the toy, like fetch or tug-of-war.

I have a dog who likes to eat my underwear too. (oof) Put the dirty clothes hamper in a closet or a room with a door that closes. There are certain doors I keep closed to keep my many animals out of trouble.

If you don't have or like this option, use a different type of container for the underwear (or whatever else he may like to eat) For example, a plastic container that latches shut. There are lots of choices for this at Wal-mart. Even plastic filing tubs would work great. Perfect to hold dirty underwear.

Good luck :-)

If don't want your dog to have something, don't let him have access to it. If the dog [[& cat]] are able to open the hamper, etc. you need to find another place to put your underwear, or you will never stop this problem. It's as simple as that.

dogs are sent animals and your dog sees your underware as a threat. Id imagine your the only older female in the house, is why its only yours. Try putting your hamper out of reach like on top of the washing machine or keep your door shut so it cant enter this laundry area

be a responsible dog owner and keep an eye on your dog. you should have crate trained her as well. when she gets something she shouldnt have, tell her no, take it then give her something she is allowed to have. pretty simple. i own pitbulls who chew on absolutely everything and anything in addition to be stubborn, yet somehow i managed to have well mannered dogs.

Pick them up and put them in the hamper.

Put the puppy on a leash and keep her tied to you for a while. You can watch her, keep her away from your underwear, teach her to obey, and catch her if she does get a pair.

Get a hamper with a lid, put a brick on top. Put it in a closet. Pick up after yourself.
