I suppose you could say that there are two States in Ireland as there is the State of Northern Ireland and what is now called the Republic of Ireland used to be called the Irish Free State.

No ireland does not have states as it is not a federal republic like the US.
Ireland has counties, so imagine ireland is a state and its counties are districts or boroughs within that state

Ireland has 4 province that are split into counties.
26 in the republic of Ireland and 6 in northern Ireland to be precise. Dublin's the Best.

Some examples include: Westmeath, Tipperary, Kerry and Mayo. Please take no notice of the above person who said that Connemara is a county- It is really an Irish speaking area of County Galway!
