I suppose you could say that there are two States in Ireland as there is the State of Northern Ireland and what is now called the Republic of Ireland used to be called the Irish Free State.

There are three useful websites which tell you about the thirty two counties and four Provinces of Ireland ... Wesley Johnston's Counties and Provinces of Ireland, the website of Robert M. Wilbanks IV and Bill Dorgan's website.

No ireland does not have states as it is not a federal republic like the US.

Ireland is split into four provinces- Ulster, Munster, Leinster and Connacht. These are subsequently split into 32 counties.
Some examples include: Westmeath, Tipperary, Kerry and Mayo. Please take no notice of the above person who said that Connemara is a county- It is really an Irish speaking area of County Galway!
