Visit the Politcs section for some heavy bickering and grandstanding. It seems to be an (American) quality to pick a side and then shout down and insult the other, regardless of whether it's religion, politics, sports, etc. Or perhaps are these just the loudest? Honestly, how many of you are proud to be staunch Republicans or hardcore Democrats, believing everything that your party stands for. Are most of us in the middle, leaning towards one side or the other? Is EVERYTHING black and white, or are there shades of gray?

Let's take a really touchy subject for example: abortion. Are the only options to totally ban all froms of abortion no matter what, or to keep all forms legal and leave it up to people? Aren't there many circumstances that you would consider gray areas? Am I the only perosn who thinks PREVENTING unwanted pregnancies will do more to combat abortion than all the laws we could pass?

I understand and agree with the point mnay of you make that people cannot discus politics and religion. The thing is we should be discussing politics, but we rarely get a chance to genuinely do so. We are quickly forced to pick a side, when as one person pointed out there may be good and bad on both sides. That's what we should be doing...choosing the best options from every side. I lean towards the left, but I am by no means in support of our current Congress. The person I want for president is actually a Republican (in the true sense of the term).

Everything is gray when one is in the hotseat. It's only from the sidelines that perception is skewed and people can only see in black or white.
The smartest commentary I ever heard from a comedian was that nothing is ever black and white and anyone who takes a stance on an issue based solely on idealogical ties without hearing the full circumstances surrounding an issue is an idiot. That goes for religion, politics, love and economics.

Yes there are shades of gray, but that usually means that you are standing on the fence and haven't made up your mind yet.
No there are sometimes more then one answer, but if you haven't picked one of those answers, then you are still on the fence trying to decide which answer is right. That is what I meant about still being on the fence. Not you in particular, but any one who hasn't decided for them selves what they believe. But sitting on the fence is good, if you want to study both sides. But sooner or later you will need to choose what you as an individual believes to be true.

I'll bet they don't have the sense of humor in Politics that many of us have here. It's our saving grace (no pun intended). As for being a democrat or a republican, I don't personally like either one very much. I seem to be conservative on some issues and liberal on others, so they both tick me off.

There are many shades of gray, but human beings tend to forget it and shouting is always the easiest way. It appears that the more one shouts the more he is right, which is not the case.
There are ppl here who always write caps lock on: they are not very nice to read.

Someone very wise once told me that there are two things you should never talk about: religion and politics, the two biggest causes of suffering and war on this planet. People can't agree and they never will, but we need to learn to just accept that instead of insulting people for being individuals.

Apparently, no one seems to pay attention to what Doctor Linus Van Pelt said many years ago, while he was still a young boy, "You know, I have learned that there are three major issues that you should not try to discuss, Religion, Politics and the Great Pumpkin."
I thoroughly, agree.

It's never black and white and it's not really shades of gray, either. It's a continuous barrage of additional facts and details that keep getting in the way of our opinions
