I just started to drive on the freeway even though ive had my license for 2 years now and am about to get my regular one.
But im still nervous how can i conquer my fear, i just accepted a job that is about 20 mintues on the freeway from my house. Im kinda scared to drive by myself especailly at nite. Now its october too, i didn't get much practice in the summer time, now winter is round the corner; is there any tips on how to drive better on the freeway and safety tips on driving on it in the winter, maybe something for beginners?

the most dangerous time about driving on the freeway during winter is when they haven't put out enough salt to melt the ice or the snow is falling too fast and covers up the lane dividers.

Don't drive next to anyone on the next lane over, either slow down or speed up if someone gets next to you. Try to stay on the far right lane, behind another car but stay kinda far back, but close enough to keep your tires along the same tire tracks so you get better traction. The most important thing is to avoid skidding. Don't jerk the wheel or overcorrect. Don't slam on the brakes or accelerate really fast. Just do everything a little slower and more carefully than what you normally would.
Be patient and don't panic and you'll be fine.

I think the key word is SLOW down when the road is icy or unplowed, but don`t creep, u`ll just be a hazard to other drivers. Make sure ur tires are all season or winter treads, if u have front wheel drive thats half of ur problem licked. Keep a safe distance from the car ahead of u and hope the one in back does the same. If ur going down a steep grade. put ur car in a lower gear, it`ll slow ur car down and u won`t be tempted to ride the breaks. If u know ur going to approach an uphill grade, pick up a steady speed so that u make it to the top without spinning out. Relax, after a time or two driving on bad roads, u`ll get the hang of it and be more confident.

Driving slow is good advice, except on the freeway where you will be a danger to others if you drive too slow. Try to plan well in advance so you do not have to make any sudden lane changes or stops. If you have 4 wheel drive, it will not help you turn or stop. If your car has ABS it will help help you keep under control while turning and braking. If it does not have ABS practice pumping the brakes rapidly.

Probably the roads are going to be far worse before you get on the freeway. Constant travel on the freeway tends to keep it clear, and it it one of the first to be sanded.

Drive with your headlights on.

Ice and Snow, take it Slow, Drive for conditions. Don't get overconfident with four-wheel drive. It won't help you stop any faster.

Drivers should allow additional room between their vehicles and others. Winter road conditions often result in longer stopping distances.

Avoid abrupt actions while steering, braking or accelerating to lessen the chances of losing control of the vehicle.

Look father ahead in traffic. Action by other drivers will alert you to problems and give you extra time to react.

Avoid using cruise control or overdrive. Don't let your car make a bad decision for you.

Stopping on snow and ice without skidding requires extra time and distance. If you have anti-lock brakes, press the pedal down firmly and hold it. If you don't have anti-lock brakes, gently pump the pedal. Either way, give yourself plenty of room to stop.

dont worry about driving on a freeway its not a big deal, its just like driving any other time all you have to to is to pay attention, and driving in the snow, just slow down and take your time theres no rush and dont worry if cars are passing you, do your own speed and you will be fine

When the road is slick and slippery, slow down and take it easy. If you start to skid, take your foot off the gas and steer into the skid.

Be aware of the drivers all around you.

Give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.
