repentence in their salvation teachings? Do you think it is necessary for salvation?

Repentance is one of the MOST necessary things you must do! I think some people just want to call themselves Christians without having to give up their old lives. You cannot have your cake and eat it! One must not expect to follow Christ and their old life style too!

First, one must recognize the fact they are sinners.
Next, they must ask God to forgive their sins with HEARTFELT repentance. Next, they MUST accept Christ as their Savior. Confess their need for the blood of Christ to wash away their sin. Then one must turn away from sin! This is what is called "being born again". God gives you a heart for His word and a desire for the things of God. You are made new in Christ! A new creation! This a basic teaching in Christianity.

It is sad that some theologians are neglecting the message that repentance is necessary for salvation. How will we ever be convicted of our sins and repent? We will not be benefited by hearing things that just tickle our ears. We need a return to traditional teachings that show us that we are in need of repentance and God's cleansing!
Some people choose to ignore basic concepts taught by Christ. When they show up for church, they think that their attendance is what qualifies them to be considered Christians. Just because I show up at a hospital, should I be considered a doctor? If a person is unwilling to grasp what is fundamental to the Christian faith, they can not expect to call themselves Christians!

Great question Summer Dawn!
May the Lord bless you!

No one should leave it out. It's absolutely necessary for salvation.

Why do some Christians leave out repentance in their salvation teachings? Probably for the same reason some leave out teachings about hell and afterlife punishment. Some teachings of Christianity are hard for some to comprehend and accept, and these hard truths are sometimes skirted around by people who shy away from teaching the complete truth.

scotgirl60: Good catch - Yes, the "good thief" did say "We both are guilty and deserve our punishment, but this man has done nothing wrong", so yes, he did repent.

I don't know about those who leave it out, but it certainly is necessary. You MUST:
1. Hear the true word of God
2. Believe it (and therefore be willing to submit to it)
3. Repent/turn away from your sin
4. Confess before others that you believe Jesus is the Christ and Son of God
5. Be baptized/immersed in water to wash way sin and be reborn
6. Continue to live a Christian life according the the New Testament

There is no salvation without repentance...

How can you be saved from sin that you will not repent of?

It is like a sinking ship analogy...

How can you be saved from the sinking ship if you will not let go of it?

You cannot be saved from that which you will not let go of...

So as was stated before...

No salvation without repentance (letting go of or turning away from sin)....

Without authentic repentence, there is typically no forgiveness for sins.

Odds are, God always intended to forgive Adam and Eve, but because their sin ended up making them slaves to satan, sin, and death, they were never able to effectively repent. Ditto for all their similarly enslaved offspring.

That's why it was necessary for Jesus to come and first destroy satan's power. Then he could offer forgiveness and grace to those who were willing to declare their faith in him and repent of their sins, typically through baptism into his authentic and universal church.

Absolutely. I feel that many Christians leave it out because they feel like if they say that too soon then it will scare people off a bit. You need to ask for forgiveness in order to be saved. Jesus offers forgiveness to any who will accept, or ask for it. If you truly are in your heart sorry, knowing that you arent deserving for what has been done for you, and realize Christ as God, then i must say from all i have ever known you are forgiven. You aren't saved by works, works are just a proof to the world of your new self, showing that you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, a way of saying thanks to God for what he has done for you.

Because repentance is the messy part that people don't want to bring up - but it is necessary.

btw - the dying thief DID repent - he told the other thief that "you and I deserve our punishment (acknowledging that he knew he was a sinner).
