She brought this ham for the block party and then she was cutting pieces off and putting it on her children's plates and I just got so sad. I went home that night and cried b/c I know the Bible says not to eat pork and that pigs are unclean and I asked my husband why she did that and he said that some people don't know any better. Should I say something to her if this happens again?

I really hope your question is a joke, but is a bad one. You sound pathetic.

I cannot believe that you cried because someone doesn't agree with your religious beliefs. Don't say a word to her. I know if you approached me like that, you would definitely get your feelings hurt and you might from her as well. Try to be less judgmental in the future (yeah, I know it's hard for you religious types to do that), and just accept that not everyone is like you or shares your beliefs.
Incidentally, the Bible says that pigs are unclean, because they were raised in an unclean manner and were allowed to wallow in their own waste. Today, pigs that are raised for food are raised in a much more sanitary way and a lot of the diseases that came from eating undercooked pork have been reduced or all but eliminated. You might have noticed that the Bible was written some time ago. If you relied on a more recent source to learn about what foods are clean and unclean, you might have known that.

Read the whole bible. In Acts 10 it says the following.

9 ¶ On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
10 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12 Wherein were all manner of four-footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou be common.
16 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.

I'm sorry you were so upset and that your husband gave you comfort by the misguided advice that people don't know any better. To eat or to not eat pork/ham is a religious issue and a personal matter. Adhere to your own religious practices and let others enjoy their own.

By the way, I'm offended and upset by the use of the word "kids" when referring to children.

If this is the biggest problem in your life, drop to your knees and give thanks. Are you old enough to have seen the changes in pork in the last thirty years ? Pork is truly the other white meat like they advertise it. It is not greasy like it used to be. Needless to say it isn't like it was centuries ago. The breeders of pigs have done a wonderful job. I read it somewhere and I will paraphrase it - most problems in the world would be overcome if the people in the conflict would sit down and have a ham sandwich and a beer ( or soda ). I would leave her and others alone, you might turn into a pest. Live and let live and respect others, surely it says that somewhere in the bible.

Wow, I'm laughing by reading this. You are right though--the Bible says that the pig is unclean. I'm Muslim, and eating pork is highly forbidden because the pig is considered unclean..

At any rate, honey, it wasnt your fault what that lady did. Your husband is right, she just doesnt know any better; and please know that she may have been doing the best she could. Maybe she's struggling with funds, and a ham was the cheapest meat she could buy. Pork is like, extremely cheap. That ham probably cost the same as a big bag of Lays Potato Chips. So be gracoius and know she was doing her best. At any rate--the kids will be fine. When the kids grow up, they'll make the decision not to eat pork anymore, if they have enough sense.

Dont say anything to her beause she will be highly offended--especially since she went all out the way to be "hospitable" and buy & cook food for you. To scold or correct her will really hurt her feelings, cause tension, and its simply not worth it .Just take it lighly, and tell her she doesnt have to cook next time--just bring the chips!

was she the only one eating pork on the block does she belong to the same religion as you? do you know how many people eat pork I live in canada and my province makes tons of money exporting pork and I don't eat pork but it's near impossible to go out for breakfast if you don't eat pork. It's religious thing and is not one of the more important things that god expects so relax you can't save the world and your only gonna stress yourself worrying about others in that kinda of way

Unless you live in an insular little world of non-pork eaters, you need to understand that some people are different from you.

Maybe you do some things that would horrify your pork -eating neighbor.

Do not expect the whole world to align themselves with your beliefs. Each of us is different. If you live in America, please be advised that we are free to do as we choose concerning religious beliefs, preferences and practices.

Think globally! The world is filled with decent folks that have different ideas from you!

And no, do not say anything to your neighbor. It would be impolite.

Have you considered the thought that your neighbor does not share the same religious convictions as you do and most likely follows a different faith then you all together!
If you want to be sad, be sad, but know this, your neighbor will probably loose no sleep over it.
How would YOU feel if she came up to you and reprimanded you for something you do that she does not agree with?
How she runs her faith, family and feeds her children is NO CONCERN of yours as long as she is not harming them, or breaking any laws, and feeding ham to her children certainly does not violate any laws.

You could tell her the reasons why you think it's harmful. I'm not sure religion is the right way to go if she has no faith.Don't expect her to change the way she's raising her kids though. Say something if it makes you feel better, but she may not have a positive reaction. Just a side note , every christian I've ever known eats pork. Good luck.

go back and read the Bible. I think somewhere in the New Testament God made it okay to eat pork. unless its been sitting out too long.
even if not, its not really your buisness unless she tried to give it to YOUR kids.
dont say anything to her.
also, try to find more important things to be sad about, like crime and violence and people ruining their lives over bad decisions.
otherwise im not sure you could be able to sleep at night!
