Why has casual sex become much more commom and accepted than it was 25- 30 years ago? Do people not believe in relationships or have morals anymore? Sex is not what it used to be. Does anyone believe that casual sex is killing romance in todays society? I dont understand how people can sleep with one person and move right on to the next and not give a damn about the person they were just with. Sex is supposed to be valued. Casual sex has become more physically risky with the spread of STD's and it seems like nobody cares. People may be using condoms but that doesnt always protect someone from catching an STD. Anyone can catch an STD even when wearing one. Are people all about fun or what?

You make some very good points, but unfortunately, our society has become somewhat immoral when it comes to sex. I think sex should be with someone you love, preferably a spouse. I think that is why we have AIDS and the widespread of STD's. Also, when people have casual sex it messes with their emotions and causes people to have inferior complexes. There is nothing good about casual sex. It may feel good at the moment, but down the road, it does come back and bite in the butt.

Well, morals and supposed to mean nothing to me. I deal in truth and reality. Sex does cause feelings of attatchment and affection for the partner. And it does carry physical risks. The idea that sex can be "just for fun" and not carry any emotional consequenses is just not true.
But many people want it to be true. They want to believe they can get their intimacy needs filled without actually being intimate, because they have some serious issues with intimacy and want to avoid it at all costs. But try as they might, they just can't get around the fact that they're not one of those many species in the animal kingdom who can have meaningless sex. They are humans. And humans have affilliative emotions about sex.
I think damaged people are the problem. Perhaps many more people nowadays have been damaged by bad relationships and desire to have intimacy projected onto objects, sex, big houses, cool cars, God and so on. We're not comfortable with the fact that relationships with people provide the bulk of our satisfaction and happiness in life, because people are so unpredictable. People can reject you, do things to hurt you, die etc. We'd rather believe that having great sex or the sought after house/car will make us feel fulfilled like only intimacy really can, because these things(we imagine) won't abandon us or decide to hurt us one day.

40 years ago was the age of the hippie, "free love", flower children, and communes. Maybe the adults of that era weren't into casual sex but those between the ages of 15-25 were definitely into it.
Prior to the hippie generation-casual sex wasn't generally practiced and sex wasn't even discussed in mixed company.

I think there was lots of sex years ago, however I believe that people used much more discretion than is used now. I know when I was a teen there was lots of sex but you never talked about it in public nor was it blatant and out there like it is today.
