I like light colors. My Fiance doesn't care but doesn't want to rest his head on butterflies or take a shower behind Paris. So how do I make our home more comfy to live in? He doesn't care to decorate he just wants to add that he doesn't want to live in a girly palce, which I am more than willing to compromise but how? What colors do you guys think are good to make both parties satisfied? What designs for walls and tables do you think is a compromise?

Try to give him a room of his own. A sports room or some place he can do whatever he want to the room! Then you can have the rest of the house!

The colors are not the issue. The problem will come in the accessories you choose. If there is a place in your home that will be strictly his then decorate that area to suit him and his taste. Sheets and bedding come in so many solids, stripes and patterns it's difficult NOT to pick something both of you will like. Guys have the tendency to like solid yet bold things...nothing too busy or frilly. You can achieve both.

I think it's unfair of him to leave all of the decorating to you. I believe he should go with you to pick some things out or, at the very least, make some suggestions. Look at his clothing...what colors does he tend to wear, what textures does he like, is he a classic or modern dresser? Pick up some magazines about decorating...look through them together. If you're doing wallpaper then both of you need to agree on the patterns used. He's making this very difficult for you and it's not necessary. I wish you luck!

Do the main pieces in neutrals and add your "touch" in the accessories. For example, a beige couch with a printed throw or bright cushions. White walls with interesting artwork in neutral frames. A basic shower curtain, but a cup/soap/toothpaste holder set shaped like something cool. Make him feel involved by asking him to pick between two things (example, this black and white nature photo or this colourful abstract art) instead of asking him broader questions like what type of art he likes. Then he won't feel overwhelmed and you will still get to add your special touches to your shared home. Personally, I've found that a few large pieces, such as a large print on a wall, a decorative piece of pottery on the table, or one large faux stem in a glass vase, make a huge decorative impact while being gender neutral.

The colors aren't necessarily an issue... light colors are fine. Just lay off the obvious stuff like too many floral prints. But don't go the other extreme either and have moose heads hanging on your walls.

As far as furniture, just make sure it's sturdy and a guy's happy.

1] pick out three main colors - ideally your favorite, his favorite, and a second choice both of you like.
example: mine is yellow, husb. likes blue, and both of us like green.
Decide if you like white, gray, and black neutrals; or ivory, tan, coffee brown neutrals. Try to keep all within your 'group' so they can be moved around easily.
2] what is he really into, or really likes, that you could decorate with? trees/Japan/water-seascapes/animal/movies etc.
ex: I like roses and angels and books; husb likes fishing, hunting [ yep - we have extra heads at our house ], scuba diving, mushrooms, and roses. So, one room has roses, one has fishing pics, one has diving souveniers, two have European souveniers, one has Southwest articles, and the heads are in the basement in his den. All the rooms except the bathrooms have books. All have angels [ all different kinds ].
3] what family made art or crafts do you want to display?
ex: we have a cross son made at church [ painted blue and yellow, but with beans glued on it ], crewel my Mom made,
a copper etching an uncle made; shells my husb collected in Phillipines, and drawings and yarn projects by both kids.
4] use family 'treasures' [ to you, not necessarily someone else ] and display them. Many of my treasures are not with a nickel; but they are priceless to me.
5] pick similar colors and materials for all art - oak/walnut; brass/chrome, colored enamels. They can be moved around at will.
Men can live with: for rooms you both use
Almost every color, if it is not in a 'girly' print. Check about pinks or purples.
If you do use a feminine color, use it in a 'macho ' design, like plaid or paisley or stripes.
If you 'overgirl' a room - add iron or stone or wood accessories - instantly ups the testerone.
Too much testerone - porcelin, lace, ribbons, plants.
Use a bit more guy/girl decorating in the family room and in his color; that is where he usually sits anyway.
Then you can make the living and dining rooms a bit more 'formal' [ feminine ], and use your fav color.
Whoever does the most cooking should get to decide main kitchen color.
The guest room is my favorite color, with butterflies!
Our room is blue [ his ], with roses!
Have fun!

Earth tones can be feminine and subtle at the same time. Just tone back the pearly pinks and bright greens to soft reds browns and tans you will get along great.

He just told you he doesn't want to sleep on butterflies. Didn't you ever go to school, or a motel, or visit a family at its home?

You know how. You are just p- ssing on your door mat.

First, you decorate any way you please. Then you let him put up his trophies, posters and Basketball Vests anywhere he wants. Paradise!
