They offer one stop shopping. Dress, all the accessories, bridesmaids dresses ready to take home same day, tux rental through after hours and they are on the less expensive side. However, their dresses are knock-offs of designer dresses poorly make with cheap material. I got my dress from a local boutique for only $650 it was heavy silky satin with hand sewn beads. davids bridal had the same style in a horrible fabric with iron on bead sections for $800!!!! I dont know why more people dont go somewhere else. I highly recommend Maggie Sottero dresses for high quality at a reasonable price.

I think people THINK it's the best deal around. I can understand, not everyone wants to spend a lot on a dress.
However, I laugh a bit when I see someone with a $500-$600 David's Bridal dress. You can get a very nice Maggie Sottero gown or other similar designer for about the same price.
I think people are a bit "afraid" to go to a bridal shop on a limited budget. say under $600 or $700. They think going to a bridal salon means you have to spend like 1K or more on a dress.
This is completely untrue. Most dress shops have gowns in ALL price ranges. You just have to do your homework on which designers are less costly.
Personally, I would never go to David's Bridal. I'm not really a fan of their dresses. I plan on having a Maggie Sottero gown, hopefully for around $600.
The only think I will give David's Bridal is that they have inexpensive yet basic bridesmaids dresses. I think $150 for a bridesmaid's dress is reasonable. Plus, they have them in every color and style. So, it more convenient for dressing 5 or 6 girls w/ different budget points and body types.
But.......if your the bride, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

Saying you bought a dress at david's is like saying you bought a toy from Wal-mart. More people will get a dress from david's because it's a world wide company. Not saying the dress wasn't special.
I didn't like david's either. The one here requires an appointment to try on dresses, won't let you take pics of you in the dresses, the staff would not listen and was offended if you disagreed with them, and charge outrageous prices for alterations. I wound up going with a local shop. The selection wasn't as big but they listened to what I wanted, I could go in anytime, and the alterations were cheap (although with the dress I picked I didn't need alterations). I would recomend trying local shops you never know what you will find. The only drawback is if the dress is the wrong size or gets sold they may not be able to get another.

Because, since they're a chain, there is either one in your town or close nearby. Often, for people who live in more remote areas, this is the only option.
And their dresses are often less expensive than going to an actual independent bridal store. David's is also a one-stop shop - you can get the bride's dress, veil, shoes and the bridesmaids dresses all in the same place.
Another reason? They can often give you a dress directly "off the rack" instead of having to wait 4-6 months for other designers at other bridal stores. (if they do order it, their wait is siginificantly less)
All that said, I still decided not to shop there - their customer service is often less than stellar and you have to fill out a form when you go for an appointment - which they use to give your personal info to vendors. I've heard of girls getting a TON of junk mail after visiting a David's. Plus, I wasn't very impressed with the quality of their dresses. Personal opinion, though.

Because most women can't afford to spend THOUSANDS of dollars on this exquisite, designer gown and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. If you feel beautiful in a dress, it's a price you can afford, and you love it, then what makes the difference where you got it? There's this new show on TLC (or some channel like it) that shows women shopping for their perfect wedding dress at this designer boutique in NYC. These dresses seriously don't look ANY different or ANY more unique than the dresses at places like David's yet they usually cost between $2,000 to 10,000 a piece!!! That's crazy! Some brides just realize they can get the same designer look as a much lower price. I never thought I'd get my dress at David's. Like you, I thought it was only full of generic looking, very ordinary gowns. Still, it was the first place I went to just simply to try stuff on and narrow down the STYLE that I liked in general. I had no intention of buying there. But the FIRST dress I put on, I LOVED....it was perfect. It fit perfectly and it was that "this is it" moment that everyone talks about. I even tried on the designer version (the one I tried on first was david's line that is a knock off of the designer) and didn't even like it nearly as much! So, I ended up getting the dress that I loved, that looked exactly like the designer one and for much less.

When planning a wedding, and attendants all live in different parts of the country, David's Bridal is a good choice, because they sell the same dresses in stores all across the country. My daughter chose them for that reason. On the wedding day they all fit and matched beautifully.
I know you asked about the brides' dress..........there is also a discount on the bridesmaids dresses if the bride has purchased her gown at David's bridal also.
A few decades ago many of us purchased bridal wear from the JCPenney, Sears or Montgomery Wards catalog for the same reasons - being more affordable, and available anywhere in the country.

Because they're cheap and standard...please realize that the majority of people are from the midwest and central states- a lot of these people may not have big cities that have botiques and such - just chain stores like david's. Believe me, I think the dresses there are fairly boring, but I think if you dig, you may find one or two that are nice. I actually ended up getting my bridesmaids dresses there, to my initial horror.

Not only is David's more affordable than many boutiques, but they also have every style and size imaginable, and many in stock so that you can try them on in your size. If you have the money and the time to shop at upscale boutiques, you might get a better level of service and a nice dress. With weddings costing a minimum of $10-15K, a lot of women can't afford more than a few hundred for their dress. It's usually lower quality, but still photographs nicely.

The service at Davids is much nicer that at the private salons at least in NJ in 1992. I was treated very rudely by several shops in South Jersey when they found out I didn't want to spend thousands of dollars on a gown. They couldn't help me fast enough at Davids on the Boulevard in Philly. Also, I really loved my gown. I tried on gowns in 3 states over a 6 month period before I found the one I wanted.
I agree with Flower, the gowns photograph well and look good in person. I have a friend who spent thousands of dollars on her Italian silk gown. Looking at the pictures on my mantel you can't tell which girl is wearing the expensive gown. In person her's was nicer, but not 10 times nicer.

Because they're a big chain. Like Wal-mart, lol, they often have those $99 dress sales and people love that! I agree, they look too standard for me. They're ok, but I'm not impressed. I want to get my dress somewhere other than a chain. But anyway, that's why. It's easy to get to, it's cheap. My sister got 2 bridesmaids dresses (she'll wear to prom & homecoming) for $50! Get that!! :p
