This is why I've always felt that the best doctors are those who have been patients themselves, because they understand what it is like to be on the other side.
You may want to consider finding yourself another physician if this particular one is your primary care provider. A doctor should never belittle you or make you feel like that, he should be more open and willing to listen to your problems. Some doctors are only in it for the money and not the patients. If it were me, I would find myself another doctor. Best of luck.

Your doctor is an A**hole. Find another one with some empathy. My mom has the same problem with MRI's and has to take a few Xanax. Her doctor totally understands that some people have this problem and they don't chose to. It has nothing to do with age, he's just a jerk. Be glad you're not his wife.
Also, Xanax is more fast acting than Valium, so that's what he should have been giving you for an MRI. Valium will take longer to kick in and then the effects will be with you longer, even after the MRI.

i completely understand how you feel, i am clausterphobic as well and it sucks to say the least. there are some open MRI machines that rotate around you and are not fully closed. they can give you something that really knocks you out way more than a 2mg valium...that's a slap in the face. go get a 2nd opinion especially since you have to have them so much. good luck!
you are not silly or any of that. fears are real and okay and doesn't make you immature or not a woman.

Maybe you don't need to put up with this. There has been a MRI machine on the market for about 7 years that is just a small ring and the table slowly passes through it . Tell the a**hole Dr that you want him to find a place that uses the newer machine.

Next time your doctor speaks to you like that ask him if he did well in his therapeutic communications class. There is no reason he should talk to you like that. Health care workers are taught to address their patients concerns (even if they are totally ridiculous, which by the way, yours is not) in a caring, non-demeaning manner. Your doctor has no regard for your feelings and probably just got into medicine so he could make money. His lack of empathy is shocking and next time I would call him out on it. He's totally disrespectful and unprofessional.

Get another doctor, fast. Also, don't they have open MRI Machines now? Could you possibly request to have your tests done at a facility that offers that option? Good Luck. :)

He's a jerk. He has no bedside manner or empathy. See if you can find another doctor.
